I am a HUGE fan of pumpkin beers, and have really enjoyed the "dark side" of these brews the past few years.....there are big differences between the usual spiced pumpkin ale, which it typically a base brown ale with pumpkin and spices, and the various Pumpkin Porters and Stouts which have become part of the autumnal (or pre-autumn!) line up....

Here are some of my favorite "dark pumpkins".....what about you?

Elysian Dark O of the Moon Pumpkin Stout
Elysian He Said (21st Amend. collab) Baltic Pumpkin Porter
Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash Stout (just had this, after a trip to NC.....GREAT Beer!)
Fisherman's / Cape Ann Pumpkin Stout and Imperial version
    Southern Tier Warlock Pumpkin Stout
Epic Fermentation Without Rep Pumpkin Porter
    Redhook Pumpkin Porter

Looking forward to new Duclaw Pumpkin Retribution Imperial Pumpkin Stout, this year.....

Whatever you do, avoid Millstream's pumpkin stout like the plague. I'm not really sure what they put in it but the aftertaste has the same flavor as burning trash at a landfill.

I absolutely love pumpkin beers and surprisingly, I haven't had any pumpkin porters or stouts. I am excited to explore them this year though. I see that we finally have ST Warlock in my area so I'll be picking up a couple bottles of that to store away for those cool autumn days.

Spring House Pumpkin Stout is awesome. I hope it'll be back this year.

A little off topic but just had some Keuka Lake Brewing pumpkin cream ale and it was stellar. And I second Warlock

I love Elysian's Dark o the Moon (and pretty much all of Elysian's pumpkin beers).

Be on the look out late September for both Rumpkin and a new BBA Pumpkin Porter called Pump[KY]n, both from Avery.

Only had Redhook's Out of Your Gourd and it was lame.

Starr Hill's Pumpkin Porter is one of the best that I've had.

Yeah, this one was probably my least favorite that I have listed, not sure I would call it "lame", but it is a thinner bodied porter, still drinkable and good price point though....ditto the Fisherman's / Cape Ann Pumpkin stout....pretty light for a stout, but still pretty tasty!

Oh yeah, forgot about that one! Had some last year and it was pretty tasty!

Must try the warlock I've heard its awesome. Curious about the St.Arnold. My Texas friends are already hounding me for the pumpkin beers from the east coast.

I drank a ton of RoughTail Pumpkin Porter last year, and even though it was a very limited draft/keg only release I'm hoping it shows up again this fall at some point because it is still in my Top10 as of this moment. Every other pumpkin beer I've had leaves something to be desired.

The funny thing for me in this whole regard is this: I love Pumpkin Ales (and PumKING is aptly named). I love stouts. But put 'em together, and none of them have captured me so far. But .... for good measure, I've decided to give them another chance this year, and have a 2014 Warlock in my beer stash at the moment.

I enjoy drinking Elysian Dark O of the Moon Pumpkin Stout but it tastes more like a 'regular' stout to me vs. a pumpkin stout; the pumpkin aspect is subdued in this beer.

A year+ ago I had some Evil Genius Trick or Treat Porter beers that I thought were nice.

    Cheers!

Think I pickup a PumKing and a decent stout and blend away!

The only one, of all those listed, that is available in my area, is Warlock...I still have one from last year and got one a couple of weeks ago...back to back tasting coming up!!
