I've had Warlock, and Dark o' the Moon, and Punkuccino. Warlock is good, no question, but in that company, it runs third place, IMHO. However, both the Elysian beers put the pumpkin a bit in the background. They are extremely well made stouts with interesting flavor profiles, part of which is pumpkin, but pumpkin doesn't lead the flavor parade.

Starr Hill and Red Hook both brew pumpkin porters (close enough) that aren't bad.

I just had it for the first time tonight as well. Was really impressed. The aroma was that intoxicating pumpkin flavor, but it didn't taste like pumpkin pie in a bottle at all, just a delicious spiced stout. Really enjoyed how the flavor changed as it warmed, too.

Warlock is one of the worst stouts I have ever had and unquestionably the worst pumpkin beer I have ever had, which is saying a lot. The DC Brau/Epic Brewing collaboration Fermentation Without Representation was quite a bit better, in the same price range and in the same alcohol range. For something a bit heavier, Avery Pump(KY)n borderline tastes like everyone's Bourbon County Pumpkin Stout fantasy. Good pumpkin and nutmeg flavor without the mouth-parching spiciness of Warlock.

I like Pumpking too, I don't think Warlock remotely tastes like it.

21st Amendment / Elysian - He Said is pretty good.. it's a Baltic Porter, not a stout though.. I haven't had this year's, but I really liked it last year.... blending your favorite stouts and pumpkin ales together always does the trick too..

I had Naparbier's Pumpkin Tzar. I do NOT like pumpkin beers but this one was a pumpkin/habanero stout. It was a decent stout with a great habanero flavor and basically no pumpkin.

I love Warlock and yes it could be better, I personally wish the Stout profile was more upfront and the Pumking flavor in the back . it also needs to be thicker.it is a stout but by no means a Imperial Stout..
Here is one i wish I had the chance to try..Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter - Terrapin Beer Company. but it was way to limited to my market and i missed it /sigh maybe next year.

Not a stout, but Starr Hill's Boxcar Pumpkin Porter is an excellent beer.

I can't recommend those Cape Ann stouts enough. I didn't have the Harpoon one this year but I remember liking it last year. In my opinion these three are worlds better than Warlock.

I'm very meh on the style. Warlock was ok, Pumking is much better. The only other Pumpkin Stout I had was the Elysian and I too thought that was meh. I guess I just like the straight up pumpkin beers better.

I actually really like Elysian better because theres less pumpkin and more spice. A couple months ago, I was in Seattle visiting some friends and they bought me a six-pack of that stuff and I could have easily killed the entire sixer by myself.

I had this year's He Said and both were awesome. The Baltic porter isn't quite as complex as the Warlock but still great. If you like all pumpkin ales, the Tripel in He Said is great too. DC Brau and Epic collabed on an Imperial Pumpkin Porter (Fermentation Without Representation I think) and it is also great. Its definitely not as rich as the Warlock, but a great beer.
