hey guys, I was going to purchase a 20 gallon mash tun and I wanted some opinions on what you recommend. Pretty much asking and looking for reviews. Thanks!

Do you mean a mash tun with a 20 gallon capacity? Or a mash tun suitable for 20 gallon batches?

I'm assuming he means an 80qt mashtun.

Nice let us know how you like it. I've been using a Coleman cooler for a while and I can't see changing it up.

Interesting mash tun. It appears to have a drain hole on the bottom ("no dead space") but also a port on the side (well above the bottom) to fit a valve to. What's up with that?

Never used it, like the stainless steel, are you concerned about heat loss?

Like @Prep8611 I use a cooler, Walmart brand, and am happy with it.

    It's insulated between two walls.

How do you heat this up since it says no direct flame.

I really did like the drain hole at center to not leave any wort behind. My current mash tun is set up this way. I just needed more volume for larger grain bills for 10 gallon batches. The port on the side that you’re talking about is near the top for recirculating or for a vorlauf attachment.

There's also a port near the bottom, which can be seen in some of the pics at this link.

I have the same tun. There are only three holes. The bottom one below the thermowell is the drain.
Are you talking about the hole for the manometer?

Don't know. It's an inch or two above the bottom. The pictures show it with a valve attached. The pics are -> here <-.

Edit: I think I just figured it out. It's not really above the true (inner) bottom, because it must come out between the two layers of stainless, i.e. the drain line must go from the bottom of the inner layer, out to the valve.

It does. A drain out the bottom would be odd.

I went with this because of the center drain.
