I'm really asking for a friend who is interested(I'd rather have my beers in individual bottles), but I'm the kind of guy who likes to research things.

I've been scouring google trying to find where to purchase large bottles; Magnum, Methelusa, etc, but have yet to have any luck. Anyone know where large format champagne bottles can be purchased for homebrew?

Probably cost prohibitive for most people, so I would guess you'd have a hard time finding some.

You'd have to buy close to a lot of them to get that size from most places. Pallet or so.

They don't do retail but there's a fair chance your LHBS buys from Saxco... Might be able to add a couple onto an existing order? Pretty sure this is the supplier Russian River uses.

Did your friend ever find a source of empty large format bottles for beer?

Have you ever tried to contact any local wineries that make sparkling wine and have to cork and cage their beverages?

Not super helpful, but the only one's I've seen are reused commercial bottles. I'm seen the arrogant bastard ones around a few times.

Altenmunster sells 2L flip tops for about $16 including the beer.

My local homebrew store bought some jeroboams a year or so ago, although they don't list them online and I'm not completely sure where they originally got them from. I think it was a one time thing to gauge some interest. I'll have to contact them and ask.

Contacted my LHBS regarding 3L jeroboams:

"Someone from out of state who was looking for a source, but I see they're not sold through the website. I'm assuming they were a one time deal and you had to buy a certain amount to make it worthwhile.
Is there any way he'd be able to order them?"

    and this was their response:

"They are a product that we can keep in stock but generally only get one case of 6 a year. If he is interested in sourcing them from us and putting down a deposit we' be able to keep them in stock as needed.
We'll be ordering from our supplier this week."

Store is Keystone Homebrew Supply, if there's interest in pursuing it further.
