I went to my local beer store a few weeks past and asked to be put on the KBS list. I owner said it was filled and the people on the list would only be getting the KBS. I asked what else he had list for and he said he is already putting together a list for KBS next year. This seems a little crazy, what are your thoughts on list? Would a raffle be better?

what would be better would be the store having a 1-4pk limit and not announcing the stocking of it onto the shelves.

They should just make it like an exclusive country club. You can only join by invite and approval by the other KBS enthusiasts and then, after you're accepted, it costs $20k per case.

A list for next year does not surprise me.

Sometimes the people that are on the list pull a "no show"
I was at a Binny's once and asked the beer connoisseur for a recommendation for a good stout and he offered me a Parabola that was on hold for someone for 3 weeks that didn't show up.

Of course. It wouldn't seem right without unapologetic nepotism.

i wouldn't hang my hat on a list, and the idea of being on a list for next year is absurd, and an indicator that shit is getting out of hand/perspective.

your best best is become friends with your beer store, as well, scope out stores that carry Founders, but that really don't draw a big BA crowd (that store down the road from the amazing beer store that you shop).

I find that some of these places with lists will do it purely to know they can bring something in and get it sold right away.I know one local place that announces lists on Facebook which takes little to no effort to ask to get your name on it.

From reading a lot of threads on different ways that beer is distributed (list, raffle, line up at 5:30am) I haven't seen a "best way" to do this other than getting it in and putting it on the shelf.

Thankfully I have never had to put my name on any list.

I would agree with this, except a lot of stores (around here anyways) only get a case, in which case only 6 people get it, so I'm a fan of singles in this regard. I am very much a fan of unannounced stock, though.

not a fan of the list, its a burden for the store and retailers generally dont like to do it , if a store you frequent wants to take care of you they will

Yes, but there's an inheritance tax. Your kids have to buy 3 cases of some other beer before they can inherit your membership.

I've never even heard of a store around here doing lists. Sometimes I think it's good I'm not in GI's or Founders' distribution networks (for rare stuff, no one is fighting over Matilda).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Lists are the devil. Exclamation point.

yeah there is no reason for a list. Just put it on the shelve and put a bottle limit on it if you want to spread the wealth.
