Actually they did: "Next year’s release will be about three times the size"

Exactly. I don't have the Big City problem so maybe I can't relate. For the small stores I go to they know me, if something is interesting/unusual/rare comes in they tell me. I'm not some Whale or anything but I'm a regular. I'm not saying they are 'Small Timers' or anything but if somebody shows up 26 out of the last 27 weeks there's a good chance you'll get to know each other. If you don't like how they do business go somewhere else. Sorry but the reality is it's his product and it's only because of him/her that you'll ever sniff it. The guy is probably just trying to take care of his regulars but I agree, if the demand is that high, put it on the shelves, first come first serve with a limit and be up front with your regulars. It's a No-Win for the business, they WANT to make everyone happy-it means more business.

Here's a simpler novel idea. Stop brewing special releases or limited releases and if your brewery is too small to supply all those who want your beera simply close up shop and find another business....

Do you really think this, or was this after a sixer of Hopslam?

    I don't believe in lists.

A simple secret handshake, wink-wink and a nod seem to work well.

Can't wait to see the first liquor store with velvet ropes and a sasquatch of a man outside with sunglasses and a clipboard skimming it and saying "sorry, your name's not on the list" while he lets the more attractive people in to buy beer.

I am regular enough at my local store that the owner knows me by name and puts me on the list for me.
If you frequent a store and buy an assortment of their stock, not just show up for each special release, and build a relationship with that store, then the manager will go out of his way to put a bottle aside without you even asking for it.

It is all about relationships people.

how many bottles of KBS were made?

I said it last KBS and CBS release and I will say it again, Founders should stop distributing their special releases so thinly. All they are doing is creating a hysteria and making people mad. I think people would understand if their state is left out because they were not an original state getting the beer. But as it is now, even long time supporters in Michigan have a difficult time finding any.

my store does one of two things with special/rare releases: keep em all in the back. tell the customers we have a relationship with and know are into good beer or wait until someone asks for it specifically. OR. put one bottle or 4pack on the floor (we have a spot we tend to put them, frequent customers know where to look), check up on it periodically (its in a spot we have to walk by constantly) and replace after selling. repeat until allotment is gone. seems to work well.

never had to be on a list or raffle, never had to deal with setting one up either. i dread the day i do.
