    Well yeah, it's got 20 f'in malts.

I'd be surprised if each year doesn't have a different recipe. The ABV fluctuations are pretty huge and that suggests they're still dialing it in. It's not just batch variation at high gravity, because the anniversary beers seem to hit their ABV consistently. But because each year is still called Black Tuesday, they get lumped together as "the same beer." As I said above, it's a perception thing.

On Eclipse, sure. In Dark Lord and thick beers of that ilk, I doubt it. Which barrels did Bourbon County use each year? Which barrels does Black Tuesday use each year?

For those beers, if you weren't told ahead of time, you (most people) wouldn't know what barrel was used.

Ah, I was talking just the bourbons in general, not the beers made with them lol. I will concede to you that picking the distinct bourbon out of eclipse would be damn near impossible.

As to my above about BT and all, anniversary beers are solera method, so there is a lot of beer already in there that normalizes the ABV. That and they aren't adding sugar to the ferment like they do for BT.

09 BT is more distinctive than the 20malts thats always mentioned. The overflowing mash and the way too long boil are just 2 parts that make it more different than any small recipe tweak they have made.

BT '09 taste the EXACT same at BT '10, BT '11, and BT '12. CR batch 1 taste the EXACT same as batch 2. All are a hot, sweet, boozy mess of a beer. I wouldn't trade Jai Alai ounce for ounce for any of them, much less $4$.

if the Voodoo BA Black Magick release from 2 weeks ago is anything to go by, then YES!
the Buffalo Trace and Pappy versions taste nothing alike. I haven't compared the same barrel treatments of the Big Black Voodoo yet...

Hahaha, somebody always hates on BT and the variants. All I will say is I love em, you may not. I won't try to convince you and you don't try to convince me, ok? lol

Before the 2010 release, the 2009 Elijah Craig and Heaven Hill Eclipse were trading pretty highly. Not so much anymore as they've been re-released.

The last trade I know of involving cognac de meurte was a BT09 for a cognac de meurte and a nooner growler. As to taste, have you had both of these beers? I think they're quite different and I'd bet the bottles themselves that I could tell them apart blind.

In a Dark Lord thread, das some good trollin'.

I've had them all... They were different, but I think that's colored at least in part by my expectations. I am curious if anyone will actually try them double-blind and be able to tell the difference.

It's not trolling. It's how I honestly feel. Anyone who knows me could affirm this.

Sounds like a job for Conspiracy Keanu: http://www.quickmeme.com/conspiracy-keanu/

I believe this "perception thing" is otherwise known as "demand".

No one ever spreads misinformation or misrepresents their beer on BA for their trade value. I'm so sil.

How do you know what the demand is?
"Well, I can get a lot for my BA Dark Lord."
Why can you get a lot for it?
    "Because the demand is high."

Seriously though, how do you know what the demand is?

Scientifically? I sacrifice a wale and then take a handful of holy beer bottle caps and I toss 'em in the corner. The alignment tells me the current and future value of the beer and whether I am going to win my next trade.

the last trade I saw for the 2012 bourbon vanilla dl and not the PVW one was 5:1. It was a Rare, Cherry Rye, Fou Foune, Black Tuesday, and Kopi Speedway for the BV DL

    Ugh.

So in theory a BA variant Black Magick or other rare BA variant stout should bring close to that return?

I think BA DL is an acceptation, in that it is in such high demand and so rare. It is one of the white whales that isn't from europe or isn't very old, so it means more people have heard of it and there are more bottles out there then a lot of other white whales.

BA Dark Lord really isn't THAT rare though. Last year they released a total of what 2700 BA DL bottles? Going to assume more this year.

Take the Black Magick Variants I mentioned above. Buffalo Trace and PVW each had about a 500 bottle count.

    I don't get the logic.
