To each there own. I like making lists (obv.) but if you don't, don't want to, or don't care about the list, that doesn't affect me... nor do I have an opinion on your non-participation.

There are a lot of BA Stouts that are widely considered "fucking delicious" with similar bottle counts. They just happen to be from smaller brewery's without huge events. Why is it so difficult to admit that if FFF was some hole in the wall brewery without DLD their BA variants would trade for about 1/4 of what they do today. Demand is high because of the "lol FFF Fanboy's" running around going ZOMG DLD BADL OMGOMGOMG. Let's say some unknown brewery put out some really delicious BA Stout on par with Brandy Vanilla DL...you trying to tell me it would trade the same without the marketing machine that is FFF and their fanboy's? Not trying to knock the beer, just the idea that BA DL variants trade at the level they do based upon taste alone...thats laughable.

yes it is, and no one is suggesting it's by taste alone.

Right because lord knows low bottle count stuff from Hill Farmstead (a "hole in the wall brewery") doesn't trade for all that much...oh wait, a bottle of Ann snagged a Vanilla DL right after the release.

Yep, I'm done with this thread. I'm going to need to drink a beer or 6 just to forget it...

MikeTen: You are right, BA DL is not a hard to get beer and it only trades for rare beer because everyone lies about it. Now that we've blown the whistle on that one i'll land a few more for some BCCoffee and Melange #3

Roon: You are right, too. BA Dark Lord is only sought after because FFF makes it and sells it on DLD. but don't confuse that for demand or desirability, it's just hype. Doesn't count for silly "economic" conversations. It's also gross.

SpeedwayJim: You know nothing about beer, especially the rare or desirable ones, as evident by the fact that you think BA DL is hard to get. Just stop man, no one listens to what you have to say about anything anyway.

Grumpy: C'mon man, you are just trying to boost the value because your tiny little beer collection is embarrassing and you want to land some real beers for your over-priced shelf-turd BA Dark Lord.

    whew...

I think we all know better than to refer to Hill Farmstead as a "hole in the wall brewery," despite it's remote locale and the physical size of the place.

Besides, weren't they just voted #1 Brewery in the Universe by the Ratebeerians?

I was only calling it that because he was implying that if Three Floyds wasn't what it is in terms of size, location, DLD, etc. then the demand for their beers would be (and I quote) 1/4th of what it is.

Well, so much for friendly discussion and people not putting words in one's mouth.

It amazes me that a site with such heavy moderation and relatively inoffensive threads has so many users who get upset on an ongoing basis.

You can't fight BA DL hype, MikeTen. It's impossible. Too many cellars rely on these bottles.

Lets use a local brewery here in MN as an example. Fulton.

Lets say tomorrow they release a BA Brandy Vanilla Stout that is actually better than DL in some locally advertised release party with a sub 500 bottle count. You honestly trying to tell me that this beer would trade for what Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord has been? You really think that if BVDL was released in that manner that it would command the price it does on the trade market? No, you can't be claiming that as that would be a very stupid claim. The beer is popular precisley because it comes from FFF and they are able to hype it to shit on DLD, and they have an army of fanboy's advertising it for them. It has very little to do with the beer itself...and quite a bit to do with the percieved prestige of having one in your cellar. Walez bro.

East Coast - West Coast beef about the perceived valuation (overvaluation?) of BADL variants, the extent to which making white whale lists is a worthwhile way to spend Monday afternoons, the ongoing progression of MikeTen's burgeoning Tourette's and whether anyone cares about Fulton Brewing (and MN generally). It'll all end in tears and someone getting cut down in their prime like Biggie and Tupac.
