    Where's St. Bernardus Abt 12?

Man, tons of advice; I appreciate it. If I can get my hands on a Pannepot, it's in. Beyond that, I'm definitely including the ABT 12; maybe I'll drop out the La Trappe, if it's too much. Similarly, I have an Achel Extra, but I think I'll keep it out. That puts it at Westy, St. B., Roche, and Chimay, which I think is very solid (even without Pannepot).

I've tried all the American quads on the list with the exception of Weyerbacher. I can do a separate tasting for those, or, you know, just drink them whenever.

I'm definitely planning on trying it blind, but I'm figuring out the details. I might have my wife pour for us, so we can do a full bottle into three glasses, without knowing what was poured. That way, we can each take notes, offer observations, etc., and still get a large enough sample size that aroma, flavor, and appearance should be fairly well representative.

Crap, it seems like I actually have collected too many quads lately. Is that possibly a bad thing?

Unsalted crackers? No real palate cleansers or anything? I normally use dry horseradish cheddar and plain crackers. Not saying I know better, just what I normally do at tastings.

Just missing me...I'd go epic! "Homer's ghost came whispering to my mind./He said: I made the Iliad from such
A local row. /Gods make their own importance." Here's to a great evening & tasting - slainte!

    Drop the Americans.

Add Achel, Abt 12, Pannepot as said above.

With 3 folks, 4 oz pours for 7 beers is a good plenty.

    GO BLIND and take notes.

Not sure if you are a stickler, but I don't think the Chimay is a Quad. Perhaps a technicality but I thought I would mention it.

Yeah, I know Chimay blue is passed off as a BSDA, but I think it qualifies for this purpose. If I get my hands on Pannepot in time, Chimay is probably the beer I drop out of it (St. B, Westy, and Roche are absolutely required, IMO).

Unsalted crackers. They cleanse the palate. The other stuff you mention tastes good and can follow the basic tasting, but they are palate changers, not palate cleansers.

Add Pannepot and St. Bernardus Abt 12, drop all the American quads IMO.

If you can't find Pannepot, that's ok, you still have a great lineup.

Even though it is classified as BSDA, throw in a 09 vintage Het Anker Cuvée Van De Kaizer Blauw. That and La Terrible from Unibroue.

If you have to go with the Chimay Blue, you guys will definitely be able to pick it out of the lineup. I love quads but hate Belgian strong darks ... you might love both, but either way, it's not a bad brew to put in there for comparison purposes.

And the answer is hell no ... no way you can have too many quads. No such thing.

The morning after might be an issue. I did the same thing though I called it the Tripel threat. The next day was bad.

St Bernardus is a must. But, to be technically correct, it does not qualify as "Trappist." Alas, it is a great "Abbey" ale.

A Tripel Threat sounds like fun ... might put together one of those this summer.

It's definitely a good idea to assemble 3-4 people for a beer comparison jamboree. 3-4 minimum. And especially with quads. That ABV is no joke.

Keep the pours small. I think the idea of keeping the american quads and doing it blind is a really good one. Let your taste buds make decisions for you.
