Just looking for some insight on the order to tastes these quads: Trappist Westvleteren 12 Trappistes Rochefort 10 St. Bernardus Abt 12 Pannepot Pannepot Grand Reserva 2008 La Trappe Oak aged Batch 6 Thanks in advance!
Def do blind. Westy 12 will win with the Pannepot 2008 coming in 2nd. Then again maybe you don't need to do blind tasting. Great line up!!! Enjoy!!
Another vote for blind. That's a really nice lineup there. Report back the results, we'd all love to know.
You'll be able to pick out the grand reserva, but damn is that an amazing beer. Awesome lineup there!
I'd imagine in a blind tasting, I'd be able to pick out the Pannepots easy - they have a very distinct flavor... well, plus they're like among my all-time favorite beers - and the St Bernardus Abt 12 is amazing. I've never tasted the others. So, if those were mine, I'd start with the La Trappe/Rochefort (doesn't matter which - toss a coin), and then have the Westverleten (to see if its worth all the hype and that much better than the first two). Then - and I'm totally fantasizing now, because I wish I were you - I would have the St Bernardus - its amazing, and having just had the Westverleten, I'd want to see how it stands up to a real heavy-hitter. Then, probably pretty intoxicated by now, I'd call it a night. The Pannepots are considered quads, but there's something that's very distinct about them - almost like the have their own special place in the universe. I'd do a Pannepot session the next day. I was able to try the Pannepot, Pannepot Reserva, and the the Grand Reserva all in one session, and it was heaven. I just wanted to sail a ship to Belgium and live by the sea. So I'd do the Pannepots separate. Real curious how the Rochefort, La Trappe, and (especially) the Westverleten compare to the St. Bernardus. I also expect nothing but raves about the Pannepots. You will report your findings, no?
I'd say do it blind. You'll just concentrate on the nose, flavors, and feel. Those are some great quads and not knowing which is which will make it all that much more interesting.
Awesome line up man...go blind. Report the results (And Justice Will Be Served As Justice Is Blind...)
Thnx, Mbrown. Looking forward to the results. This is interesting.. I've tried all except the grand reserva and the oak-aged la trappe, but I'm going to try and predict the results: Winner: Pannepot Grand Reserva 2008 2. La Trappe Oak aged Batch 6 3. Pannepot 4. Trappist Westvleteren 12 5. Trappistes Rochefort 10 6. St. Bernardus Abt 12
I am doing a blind tasting on the 3rd with these quads: Westvleteren 12 Struise Pannepot Rochefort 10 Sint Bernardus Abt 12 Struise Sint Amatus La Trappe Quadrupel Chimay Bleu The tasting panel is not very experienced so i am curious which one they will like best. Thijs
