Queen City seems like the least heralded of brands that Craft Collective has brought to Boston thus far. They've been popping up a bunch and though I've yet to try anything from them, so I'm curious to hear the opinions of those who have had a chance to sample their offerings. Their ratings here are not particularly impressive, but they seem to tend toward the "less charismatic" styles, so to speak. So, people who don't immediately write off Koelsch and ESB, any thoughts on how theirs fare?
In a way they remind me of some of Long Trail's beer before the rebranding and new lines. Good, well made, straightforward beer. As you noted, less heralded styles which likely leads to no hype and mediocre rankings. I'm a fan of their porter, ESB, raunchbier and some one offs they've rotated through at their brewery.
Are three founding members of our local homebrew club and consistent BJCP - sanctioned competition winners. One of their specialties is traditionally - brewed stein bier using hot rocks to boil the wort. They have a friendly, low-key taproom and have no interest in the geek scene. They make quality, traditional styles that locals enjoy. I don't expect beer geeks in MA to get overly excited...but who knows?
As a WMass advocate I value their craft. The ESB is spot on, and trust their compass on other styles. Cheers
