I’ll be spending a couple weeks in Auckland and Queenstown at the end of the month. Any good beer bars/pubs around town in those two cities (especially Queenstown)? Much appreciated!
Atlas is on the water near the casino, usually 4 Emerson's taps plus 4 Altitude taps and the other half of their 16 or so taps are spread amongst other NZL stuff. Smith's has about 20 or more taps and within walking distance of Atlas. Usually different breweries on tap at each place. You can find some decent beer at New World Wakatipu (supermarket) and across the road is Super Liquor which has a better range. If you drive to Wanaka there is Rhyme and Reason brewery which is a decent spot to grab a beer from
Just noticed this thread. There is a previous thread about New Zealand as a beer destination and that might be some help. Haven't been to Queenstown but Auckland a few times. If you want craft beer down on the harbor Northern Steamship is good. For more traditional beer there are many pubs in the city. Two I like are the Occidental Hotel, which is a Belgian Beer café, and the Empire Hotel, which is pretty varied in clients and beer. Last time I was there they had Murphys stout on tap, something I've never seen in Australia.
If you're in Newcastle, you used to be able to find Murphy's at the Northern Star in Hamilton or at Finnegan's on the corner of King and Darby Streets, so maybe try there
I spent four days in Queenstown in Feb. '17. The city itself is incredible. In terms of beer, I found the selection at Smith's to be far more expansive and diverse than Atlas. Atlas has an incredible view of the lake, especially at sunset, and a unique bathroom, but that's about it....it can also get crowded. I sampled a few flights at Atlas over the course of two days and got to taste some really interesting NZ brews.
I may be too late in responding, but if you're in Auckland definitely hit up Garage Project's location there. Best beer in NZ for my money.
