So I just picked up a Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza with a bottled-on date of 11/3/2011. It was on a top-shelf, far away from windows, but possibly in sunlight at some points (big glass walls@ this beer store.)

Is light-striking something to watch out for with sour and wild ales, or beers with live yeast in the bottle in general? "Funkiness" is already such a prominent aspect of these beers that I wasn't sure it was something to truly worry about.

Always something to be aware of with beer. Sunlight is bad news. Besides that, it should be fine.

You're fine. Just keep it out of the light from here on out- er wait I mean the beer is ruined, trade it to me for some Bud Platinum...

Oro isn't really funky or sour, just a tangy beer. With that said in always weary of buying a beer that has been in the sun at all. I'd just drink and enjoy it though.

Shouldn't be a big deal with that beer since its not that old and the double thick bottles protect it pretty well.

Still, you may want to open it over the sink when it comes time to drink. Oro can be a gusher.

Oro, even a very chilled bottle, is definitely a gusher...good advice for opening over a sink. I've had some Oro at 6 years old, and it was quite good. If you found the older bottle format, that's a good score.

Got an Oro in a recent trade, glad I read this thread before I opened it as I never open bottles over the sink.

It will be fine, the light wont cause a funk or sour, more of a cardboard taste. The think bottles help it out a lot. It is a great beer.

Most should be open over a sink. You never know if they'll be a gusher.
