My buddy is heading up to Cincinnati later this week, and wants to pick up some beer for us to try. SeekABrew gave me a great idea of what breweries serve Ohio that don't serve Missouri. But what it doesn't indicate if there are some that don't reliably reach your city (like Fatheads, Jackie O's, or Columbus). So, a few questions:

    1) Which of the major instate breweries regularly hit Cincinnati with bottles worth picking up? In particular, I'm wondering if there's a chance he'll be able to find Headhunter or White Raja, but more general info is much appreciated too.

    2) Which of the Bruery beers make to OH? Did the DFH collaboration? And if so, is it still on the shelves anywhere? That particular beer has been a big want for both of us, so I'd like to prioritize nailing it down.

    3) My understanding is that FFF is now in Ohio, but in a very limited way, and not with some of their standards like Gumballhead. So, can he expect to find some, or is it just the odd limited release that flies off the shelf in minutes?

    4) What Ithaca beers do you guys get? Any chance of Brute?

    5) Which stores are likely to have the largest selection of beers from DFH, FFF, and The Bruery?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. No Headhunter. Yes to White Rajah. Tho, it seems this latest batch of Rajah is quite buttery to me.
    2. Can't tell you that I've ever seen that beer. Some year-round Bruery stuff is in the Cincy area. Market Wines, Dutch's, Party Town, Party Source all good places to find it.
    3. FFF bombers and kegs in OH. No GumballHead. Drive 15 minutes out of Cincy into Indiana and find it at Whitey's in Lawrenceburg, or any of the other big liquor stores on the main drag. Someone will have it - they know Cincy folks come over there for it.
    4. I can't tell you that I've seen that one locally.
    5. Dutch's, Party Source, Party Town.

Where can I find White Rajah in Cincinnati? Does Jungle Jim's carry it?

I was just in the city yesterday and looked for Victory and Smuttynose IPAs. Found both at a state liquor store--they were nowhere near fresh.

Most were answered above, but here's some other input on the things that KeithD didn't get to:

    1) Answered above
    2) Yes, the DFH/Bruery collab made it to Ohio. I saw it on the shelf somewhere in Dayton recently, you may be able to find it but I kinda doubt it at this point. Other than that, any of their normal distribution and under 12% ABV will come to Ohio. This includes things like White Oak, Tart of Darkness, year rounds, seasonals, etc.
    3) Answered above, but FFF stuff flies off the shelf so you're lucky if you see it.
    4) No more Ithaca. I believe they pulled out of Ohio, and there ain't no way you're finding Brute anywhere sorry to say.
    5) Answered above, but check out Belmont Part Supply in Dayton. It's about an hour drive, but well worth it.

Also, no Jackie O's. You MAY find it at a beer festival or something, but bottles are only released at the brewery every few months. Also, don't forget that Ohio can't get anything above 12% ABV.

White Rajah comes out every now and then, and when it does then yes it will be at Jungle Jims. It goes fast so a 6 pack is probably going to be fresh if it's on the shelf.
And yeah, I've gotten quite a few old IPAs at more of the "casual" liquor stores. Go to reputable beer shops and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the info. I suspect he won't have the time to make it to Dayton. But I will use this information as well as some of my own research to direct him on what to pick up. Hopefully there'll be some success.

Ithica is no longer distributing to anywhere south of Columbus and no way you are still finding Brute on any shelf in this state. Have your buddy hit Dutch's as others have said but also tell him to go to Party Source across the river in Kentucky. I have been there many times and found 3F's that are not distributed in Ohio and that are just sitting on the shelf. Also Kentucky does not have 12% cap.

Have him do you a favor and go across the river into Kentucky, then have him pick you up some Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream.

    1. Headhunter did make it to Dayton. I got a 4pk @ Arrow Wine in Centerville yesterday. They also had White Rajah and 5l Two Hearted Ale mini-kegs.

Saturday is the Dayton Alefest. If your friend is still in town, this is always a good time.

Yeah I found some Headhunter at 5th Street Wine and Deli yesterday. I was pretty surprised, but stoked!
