hi. I will be visiting New York in November and one of the things we want to do is visit the Brooklyn brewery. We would either be going for the tour on the Thursday or the tap room on the Friday. Just wondering as it says the brewery is only open on Thursday to people who book the tour, is the tour worth it, and can you have a drink/shop in the tap room area after or is it totally off limits? I've seen that you get samples on the tour but don't want to miss out on the tap room experience if you only get the lager/brown etc
    Thanks

Yeah the taproom is open for the people taking the tour. They let you taste a bunch of beers and they explain them all.

The tour is nice, but the brewery isn't that huge, so it's not a long tour.

I also suggest walking over to Mug's Ale house afterwards and then walk North across McCarren Park to Torst.

Thanks. Yeah will definitely be checking out torst.

So that's good, so you can still check out the rarer stuff that they have and purchase bottles to go?

They should have something rare on tap, but I do not believe you can purchase bottles to go. I could be mistaken about that though...

Cheers! Looks like mug's ale house will have a good bottle selection anyway!

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but, Other Half is a must in Brooklyn. Would be about a 30 min subway ride from where you will be but worth it.

Yea, so much good beer and breweries in Brooklyn, you wouldn't be missing much if you decided to skip Brooklyn Brewery all together. Not that their beer isn't good, its just that there's so much other stuff that isn't readily available outside of NYC worth checking out.

I was at the brewery last night for a private event and I'm sure you can buy bottles there.
