I was in Dresden for a day this past week and stopped into a place called Watzke Brauereiausschank in the Neustadt district. They had three offerings, a Pils and a rotating "Besonderes Bier" (which happened to be a smoked beer when I was there), and a third beer called an "Altpiernisches Bier", if I remember correctly. I asked the bartender about it on my way out, and to me it sounds like what I know as a Landbier. He described it as not too hoppy, with a light, sweet, caramel note.

Has anyone heard of Altpiernisch Beer? Can anyone provide any info on this style? I unfortunately had already ordered my last beer of the night - their Rauchbier - and did not try the Altpiernisch.

    Thanks in advance and cheers.

The beer is called Altpieschener Spezial, the Watzke Brauhaus is in Altpieschen, a part of Dresden.
It is copper-colored, indeed a bit caramelly, malty, moderately hpoppy.

Ah, it's named after a part of Dresden. OK...that makes more sense. Thanks for the info. I should have given it a try.
