The bottles popping up in stores...are these left overs from the original batch, or are they rebrewing this beer? I received one in a trade last week and there is no bottle date (no bottle date on the original bottles either) for me to determine if this is a rebrew or not.

Good question, I was thinking the same thing earlier. Regardless, it is tasting great.

It's a "re-brew". By that, I mean they might taken more barrels that didn't get used for the original for a new batch. Or maybe it's truly a complete re-brew.

Who knows and who cares, the stuff is tasting fantastic! Digging the coconut, raisin, vanilla melange. I stocked up on a few bottles and even caught it on tap at Ale Arsenal over the weekend.

How does it compare to what was released initially...is it drinking better 'fresh'?

It's a completely new batch, and most likely drinking much better fresh. Still haven't had the original though, so I can't say

Completely new batch. I've had both. I think the new batch is better right now. Never had the old batch fresh though.

Having had both batches fresh, I have to say the original tasted better. I got more of the advertised "oatmeal cookie" in that one, and it was less carbonated so the mouthfeel was completely different. I still have one bottle of the new batch so I can see how age affects it.
