    Hey everyone,
First time brewing just completed. I did a 5 gallon batch of a porter and the hydrometer read 1.058 ( though I did expect it to be higher with my extra addition of 1 lb dme). I was wondering how I can find out what I can expect my ABV/OG to be since I altered it by adding 8oz of honey. I did this via extract. Any programs that would be useful would be awesome, and +2 if its for an iPhone and free!
    Thanks in advance.

    No app recommendation.
Just the back of an envelope.

    To a 1st approximation...5.8% ABV.
Probably a little bit more given the honey addition.
Could be a bit more or less if you get more or less than ~75% attenuation.

OG is best determined via an actual reading. If you are saying you have partially fermented the beer before adding the honey (after the OG reading), you can really only estimate its effect on the OG with a calculator. Just make sure you use the correct oz measurement (weight vs. volume) for the added fermentables.

You won't know your final ABV without a terminal gravity reading (FG). However, you could use an online ABV calculator and estimate it if you want to guess what that FG will be. Maybe put in a couple of different FG numbers and have an anticipated range.

In the end, though, an estimate + a guess is just killing time while you wait for it to finish. I would rather just plan my next brew day.
