I see a lot of people on here that show a picture of their pour with the beer literally flowing over the top or only like 1mm of room at the top of the glass. Doesn't this go against the whole idea or aromatics and being able to swirl your beer to create more of a head or deeper aroma. Also I guess I don't understand overpouring the beer where it's coming over the top and getting all over the sides of the glass.
I'm with you brother. I pour very carefully to achieve no more than one or two fingers of foam. On rare occasion, this isn't possible and the beer is over carbonated with respect to body. I don't want to drink foam. When I see a picture of a beer with 50% foam, I stomp on a baby kitty. I keep a whole litter of them handy when I view the "what are you drinking now threads".
Seriously, don't these people know better? If they aren't enjoying their beer in the exact same fashion that I am, they simply aren't enjoying it. Hell, they might as well be pouring that beer down the drain, be causes they sure as hell can't appreciate it when it's poured to the top of the glass. I wish I had a kitten to stomp, but since I'm fresh out of cats I'll just have to drain pour some Heady Topper to protest this gross injustice.
I disagree, I like to overpour just a bit to actually get to try the beer in all of it's stages. It gives me the fist chance to see what the brewer wants to be the "upfront" flavor in their beer. Once I take a sip or two, I then agitate to lt it foam a bit more then let it settle to have it at optimum agitation.
I find a pour is either utilitarian or superficial; there really isnt a mix of the two. It either looks good or theres an inch or two of beer swirling around the wall of your glass. Both fine choices.
