Has anybody had any recently that WASN'T infected? The last 4pk I got a few months ago.....all of the cans had a distinct sour/metallic taste to them. I went to the grocery store after work tonight and saw Redband on sale for $5.99/4pk, so I thought, what the hell, I'll give it another shot. Just cracked a can, poured it into a glass and it has be same awful sour/metallic flavor. I have yet to have a "good" Redband, which bums me out, because I have heard when fresh, it is great. I wish they dated their cans.

As I have documented on here, I have had many a bad 4pk of Redband. As you note, when its as it should be its very good, especially for the price. I had contacted the brewery late last year about the issue, they were unaware of any issue and basically told me to take it up w/ their distributor (Johnson Bros). Not sure how this is their issue, but I did contact them and they also had not heard of any issues w/ Redband. I sort of got that feeling that they thought I was wrong as they had tasted 'hundreds of cans of Redband without issue'. Johnson Bros did get me a 'fresh' four pk(as well as some various others beer in their portfolio), but since they dont date the cans , how do you really know? Anyway, I cracked a can the other day and it was great. Its was the first non infected can I had had in a long time. My guess is the infection issue has something to do w/ the age, as when they first hit the market I never had an issue.

So I would encourage you to call the brewery and then get w/ the local Johnson Bros reps to make them aware of this issue. They are never going to get it fixed if nobody is reporting it, and that is what both G. River and the distributor where telling me.

I could see it being something with older cans maybe, but it is hard to tell when they are fresh, since there is no dating. I guess I should have known they were old cans, when they were on sale for $5.99, as the store was simply probably trying to clear out old product.

I think I'll take your advice and get in contact with the Brewery first and see what they say. If they too point me in the direction of J. Bros., I guess I'll reach out to them too. I don't want anything for free....I just want fresh Redband!! I know this beer has potential and there are good cans to be had, I have just never been able to get a fresh batch I don't think. Bummed!

Sadly I won't ever buy again, too much of a gamble for a beer that I only moderately liked.

Just e-mailed Great River Brewery. I'll post here if/when they reply!

FYI, I tried emailing to no avail, only way I originally got a response was from posting on their FB page.

Im surprised that there is old stock around of this beer. Most places have it at 7.99 in MN(originally was 6.99), which is price far below any other coffee stout on the market and it really is a great beer when fresh.

Guess I'll try FB if I don't hear from them by next Monday. Thanks for the heads up!

Each time I have tried that beer, it has been old. Would love to try it fresh.
Where in Minnetonka can a get this?

I've only had it twice, but both times it has been good. The last time I bought it was probably a month or so ago.

Bought a 4-pack a couple weeks ago. The two cans I have had were good.

Where at? I bought bad 4pks at TC Craft Beer, Cellars in Woodbury and Princetons. Be nice to know the stores that might have good stock!

I think I bought it at Haskell's in Chanhassen. Not 100% sure. I am planning on having the other two cans this weekend so I will see if I have any problems.
