Question about temp controller with fridge freezer combo

No, the freezer will not be usable for freezing if you use external temp controller. Power to the freezer will constantly be turning off prematurely when the desired temperature is reached in fridge. I would look to buy a standalone, upright or chest freezer. There are numerous threads about this topic.

To tag along to what nightfly said, the freezer may still be able to go into freezing temps depending on how often your temp controller will allow the fridge to run. On hot summer days, my garage tends to get pretty warm and thus requires my temp controller to allow the fridge to run more often.

But I try not to rely on the freezer too much.. just to store ice packs and IPA's.

 

grab a metal bowl. Fill it with water. Put it in the freezer. when you grab a beer out of the fridge, check the bowls. Frozen solid? Melted a little? You may find the the freezer stays pretty frozen all the time even with the power going on and off. The freezer is designed to have the power go on and off anyway, so there isnt always cold air blowing into the freezer.

I have a freezer over fridge with a temp controller and the freezer stays pretty well frozen all the time, I definitely wouldnt put beer in there.

 

So, how did this Pan out? I am getting a fridge with a freezer, and thinking I am going to need a External temp controller for keeping the beer at 55degrees and the wife would like to utilize the freezer space would it be possible?
