I am hoping to get some IPAs outside of the big 2. While I love those beers I get my fair share of them when they hit NYC. I've been monitoring the Alchemist site to see how the releases of skadoosh, rapture, crusher, etc. have been trending. So it looks like a Skadoosh every 3 weeks, for which I think I'll be lucky enough to be visiting on a release week. The others seem random and they don't last very long on the web-shop. So I guess my question is, to anyone in the know, does the online shop fully reflect their to-go can selection, or might there be a bigger selection in-person. For example, will they take them off the online store when the stock gets low, but perhaps you'd be lucky enough to do a purchase on-site?? I've really digged rapture the 2 other times I've had it. If it's not for sale I'll probably get that as my second offering to-stay after a hand pulled heady. My wife doesn't like cask beer due to the temp, nor is she a big DIPA fan, so I'll probably selfishly order that for her too and steal some sips.

In my experience alone, I've never run into cans available for purchase there that weren't listed online. But people who go often may have differing experiences and they can chime in.

Last time I went they didn't have any IPAs beyond HT and FB unfortunately. But I think that was the only time that's happened for me.

They usually rotate Skadoosh, Rapture, and Crusher every 3 weeks, but sometimes they throw something else in there that throws it off or skips one. I have run into there being a few four packs left after something's not online anymore. You also can order 2 days ahead of time.

Other tip: Doc Ponds - tap Focal, Hen of the Wood in Waterbury - tap Heady

Was just at Alchemist the other day. FYI - the Skadoosh is a different beer every batch. It's their experimental series.

I have had Crusher in the past and I thought it was excellent - probably better than Heady Topper for a DIPA for my tastes

It looks like you had a great trip up! I didn’t realize how close Von Trapp is to Alchemist.

Crusher is unbelievable and I feel like a little under the radar, especially since they knocked the abv back a percent or two. Probably my favorite beer they make (though a couple of skadooshes have been particularly unreal).

If they still have the Dark, drink one of those on site, it was great. Was bummed they didn't have cans to go of that. But I was very happy they had cans of Luscious available, it's a top notch Imperial Stout for me - far away stylistically from the pastry stouts that have unfortunately become popular.

Did not realize Heady was on tap anywhere. Haven’t had that draft for 10 years since Pro Pig bar had it, I think before the Brewey even opened.

That hand pulled Heady at the brewery is incredible.

    Enjoy!

Stowe question: is Alchemist and the various restaurants/coffee shops around there somewhat walkable, or just best to drive from place to place?

Things are pretty spread out along Mountain Rd., and you're probably better off driving.

Doc Ponds / The Bench / Woodlands are all close to each other, but Alchemist is up the mountain a ways, and not really walkable. In theory you could walk the recreation path up to Idletyme/Piecasso and then walk across Mountain Rd. to Alchemist. It's a really pleasant walk, but it's probably almost two miles (one way).

Depends on where your home base is. I’ll be staying at store village inn and it seems like, based on my Google maps investigating That destinations in either direction are walkable. Whether it be stuff on Main Street it up the other way to doc ponds, bench etc. there seems to be some sidewalks with some cool looking covered bridges. Seems pretty walkable in that immediate area. Alchemist seems a bit too far to walk from there.

But on that note, I’m looking for a beer bar open late that’s walkable in that area. Just in case I can get away once the kids are asleep and the wife is tired out. Best one I could find is the lower bar open til 11. But they are closed Monday and Tuesday, which is 2 of the 3 nights I’ll be there. Besides that there the backyard open every night til 10. Don’t think I missing anything. Most places close by 9. Ironically even the place called nocturnal Stowe closes early.

I was up there last week and they had Kiss of Dank available to go. I don't believe that was on their website that day.

Kiss of Dank was available to go online for a day or two last week. Then not online but I’m pretty sure still available in person to go. I don’t go to the Alchemist often enough to know if this is common, but I do know Kiss of Dank is not usually available for take away.

Heady has been on tap at HotW forever - and of course it is always better on tap! Haven’t had it since they moved into town. Miss the old basement/waterfall spot under 89. HofW and DP owned by the same folks and appear to have a special relationship w /the Kimmish’s. :beers:

this beer slaps, btw. Despite the name (and near 7 weeks from canning as I drank it today), this is one of the fruitiest Alchemist IPAs I’ve yet to have. One of the haziest, too.
