So, every summer I find myself in serious need of a good hefeweizen whenever possible, its the style that spurred my love for well made beer and it continues to be one of my favorites. We all know of the greats such as Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, and Sierra Nevada in the States.......so how about a thread for all unsung great German wheat beers out there?

Right now, for the first time, I'm drinking a Hacker-Pschorr Weiss, never heard of it but its very drinkable IMO

    What are some others?

Franziskaner hefe-weisse and dunkel-weisse, Schneider Weisse Tap 7, and Tucher Helles Hefeweizen. There are also some solid American Hefeweizens out there, like Sierra Neveda Kellerweiss, EOS Hefewiezen, and Yuengling summer wheat,

Edelweiss and Paulaner are very good.

I second Andechs. Also have a Victory Mad King's Weiss sitting in the fridge that I can't wait to try.

Maxlrainer Schloss Weisse, probably one of the best wheat beers, and beers in general. One of the best Croatian hefeweizen - Dva klasa.

I guess it all depends on where you live. A couple of smaller breweries are a nice change. Here in Charlotte, OMB releases Hornet's Nest each year, which is awesome. If you're in SoCal, give Black Market's Hefe a try...really solid. Being in AZ, I think you could have decent access to the Black Market, if you have someone running over to SoCal. They are out of Temecula and distribute throughout Northern San Diego and Riverside counties.

If you want a wheat bier with some bite, go for the Weihenstephener Vitus. An old standby as far as I'm concerned.

I second the Edel-Weiss (Schneider) recommendation. I used to hunt those 10 something years ago like it was my job. On top of all the great recommendations already in this thread, I'd add Julius Echter (Hofbrau) to the list.

Edel is the organic. Different beer than the Unser.

Trade a Texan for some Live Oak Hefe...nothing compares.

I have been really enjoying the Weihenstephan lately.

All of the Weizens from Hofbrau Traunstein are excellent, but their Gastro-Weisse is truly world-class.

Have you tried New Glarus's Dancing Man yet? Just wondering where that lands among the other greats of the world. I preferred it to Weihenstephaner and would love to try Live Oak to compare as well.

I know you mentioned this brand in your original post, but I had an Ayinger Ur-Weisse beer the other day and it was one of the best beers I have had in a long time.

I second this post. If you can, work a trade for Dancing Man. The best US-brewed German-style Hefe I've had yet.

Hard to beat Weihenstephaner, but Hobrau is pretty solid as well.
