Hey folks, I will be passing through Memphis next Thursday on my way from Stl to Atl during my breweries, BBQ, and baseball tour. The only other time I was in Memphis I had rendezvous. So, I want to try somewhere different. I will only be in Memphis for a few hours. I would really like to go somewhere where I could eat some great bbq, have a few beers, (local would be a bonus) and it would be great if the place had a cool atmosphere. Im sure everyone in Memphis has their own opinion on the best bbq, but also taking into account the atmosphere and beer availability, where would you go? I did a little research and I like the looks of Central BBQ. Nice deck, cool lookin vibe, and good food reviews. Am I on the right track? Last question, how is ghost river? Is it worth stopping somewhere and grabbing a couple six packs? Thanks Ryan
Central is great. Memphis isn't necessarily a beer haven, but Central should have a decent selection. I've only had the golden ale from Ghost River and IMHO, it isn't worth going out of your way to get, unless you just want some beer from each stop. Have a good trip, sounds like a blast.
Central or Germantown Commissary for BBQ. Central was where the new brewery High Cotton chose to debut at last week, so there's that. As far as Ghost River, the only beer that they bottle is their Golden Ale and well, I think it's terrible. Your best bet from GR is to visit the brewery and get a growler of something else. It's at the end of South Main, right before it starts to get sketchy, but it's close to Cheesecake Corner on GE Patterson and S. Main. Best cheesecake I've had as well and only 4 or 5 blocks from The Fllying Saucer.
agree with harperman, but if its the beer and bbq combo you are looking for its definitely central because of High Cotton which is brewing great beer. Ghost River isnt really trying to do anything off the cuff.
I would definitely try the Copperhead Red at Ghost River. You can get it on tap at some places I believe but just not sure where. As for High Cotton at Central BBQ, what styles do they have? And are they at all locations? I've only had the Saison that is on tap at Aldo's Pizza.
central, memphis bbq company (noone really knows about this gem, located in southaven on goodlett), bbq shop, germantown commissary.stay away from rendevous, corky. if you want cajun i recommend deja vu. pizza - memphis pizza company, garibahldis. breakfast - brother junipers. organic/local - elegant farmer. burgers - dyers on beale street or huey's. if you want a bar with good beer selection go to young ave deli in midtown they got decent bar grub. as for beer.. pick up a mix-a-six pack at the cost plus on madison but shhhhh its a local secret. $8.70 (stone leviatation, victory, yazoo) going to a redbirds game?
