A fellow BA and I are planning a trip to the San Diego area for July. We're opting to fly instead of making the nine hour drive. We definitely want to hit up Stone in Escondido. My question is, is there any public transit options to get us between SD and Ensconidido, or should we look into getting a rental car? Thanks for any insight.
This. Public transportation can barely get you from one point in the city to the other, much less to North County.
The buses suck, only because they're not efficient. The trolley is incomplete, better to rent a car. Escondido is 30+ miles from SD. You'll be glad you did.
I'm heading out to San Diego next month and we want to hit Stone/Lost abbey too. How about Brewery Tours of San Diego? Has anyone tried there tour? John
I would recommend this too. There is a lot to visit up in that area and you probably want to try a lot and don't want to risk the drunk driving or miss out on trying a lot. Maybe even offer up some beers to bring down and gas money and you might be able to find a BA DD. It would most likely be cheaper for you, you get to hang out with someone, and share beer. p.s. when are you coming to SD? You might want to be here over July 8th for this http://www.stoneworldbistro.com/sourfest/
I will lay your plan out for you right here, right now. You will spend a few days in SD itself hitting up Toronado, BLAH, Hamiltons and such. You will then rent a hotel somewhere along the Sprinter line in Northern SD and use it to hit up pretty much all of the North County Breweries. This was you wont have to have a car more than a day if you don't want and you can drink as much as you want at receptive breweries. http://www.sandiegoisbrewing.com/2010/04/sprinter-san-diego-breweries.html I've done the Sprinter brewery visits before and while it's a lot of walking you wont be going further than a mile at each stop. Cheers!
