    Hello,

I just asked a similar question about the gravity of starters. I just checked what mine is its 1.060 (yeast in). I know it should be at 1.040. However it is 1.060 after I pitched the yeast. So my question is, is it possible that I was actually at 1.040 before I pitched? I did 1.5L of water and 1.5 cups DME. I assume that gravity briefly drops after adding yeast.

You're adding the volume of the yeast slurry. Don't.

Use the yeast and go with a backup of 05, or start fresh.

Edit: Unless this beer is for a competition, you'll probably be happy with the results.
