Hi BAs, I recently picked up a couple bottles of Apostlebrau Dinkel Bock. It didn't have much flavor, but I did notice it was quite clear so I'm wondering if I need to age this a bit? I bought a few bottles of Traquair with 2018 bbds, do I need to let this sit for a while or can I drink them now? Been wanting to try this for several years and don't know if I can resist trying one. Thanks, kp.
If you bought a dunkel bock with minimal flavor and is 'quite clear' then I think you have a mistake beer. It's difficult to take back a beer once it's opened, but since you have more, then I'd take it back to the store. I don't have experience with the Traquair, but for any beer that is a good candidate for cellaring, it's always fun to buy two -- one for now and one for a year or two from now for comparison purposes.
Do you mean no color whatsoever or something like no cloudiness? I've had the beer in question and it was some orange-like color. And for the Traquair, by all means, drink one now and cellar another if you want to see how it changes. To me, a best by date is meant more as an expiration date (although there's way too many variables with beer to figure out when a beer is past its prime). The best by date alone doesn't necessarily mean the beer will be any better on down the road. But since it's most likely some sort of heavy ale that you have, some aging may give you a new, tasty experience.
