I usually send packages to my brother's house since it's way less likely to get stolen as he lives out in the suburbs...the only issue is just that, he's a good twenty minutes away from me so I have to make a trek out to get a package. I'm interested in rerouting or what have you the package to one of the fedex stores near me, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Do I use one of the store's addresses instead of my brother's?

Also, would you all recommend doing that? I'm sure it's fine, but the thought of my beer sitting so close to the people who are trying not to let beer be shipped has me worried. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I don't think you can have it sent to a local store with FedEx. You can only have it held at the local sort facility for you to pickup. UPS actually has AccessPoints. You can choose for all packages to go to an AccessPoint (usually a store near your house) and pick up from there. That's what I do with my UPS packages because they deliver at a time when I'm usually not available and leaving box at the door risks theft.

ETA: We have issues here in our neighborhood in Philly. A lot of people actually use a local mail/shipping service shop that rents mailboxes out. This is probably the best option.

Based in CA, but through my fedex acct, i am able to reroute the package to my local fedex store. There should be an option through your fedex acct / tracking window to reroute. So you can have it currently being sent to your brother, and while its on its way, reroute it to a local fedex store. Not sure how close it has to be to the delivery address but worth a shot.

That's good to know, but sucks you have to wait until the box is shipped in order to re-route. Re-routing costs money too, IIRC. It would be awesome if FedEx starts doing the UPS AccessPoint thing.

You can definitely have a package sent to a local FedEx store for pickup. It has also been free of charge every time I've done it, but I have an account--not sure if that makes a difference.

But yes, you do have to wait until it is en route to actually re-direct it.

you can do it right off the tracking page after it ships. You don't even need an account ( I don't have one). I've done it many times. It is also free of charge.

No account needed and no upcharge to reroute it to a FedEx Office. From the FedEx website, you can enter your tracking info and there should be a link to follow that says something like "Hold at FedEx Office". From there, you confirm some information to prove you're you and it's done. This is all for not if the package has already gone out for delivery, that adds a wrinkle and the reroute typically can't be done until the following business day.

*Edit* Nevermind! Found the info. Indeed they are offices are are free: http://www.fedex.com/us/fedexupdates/September-2011/hold-fedex.html

Can you confirm that these are FedEx stores you're talking about, not sort facilities? I tried re-route a package a while back to an address nearby and they wanted to charge me. I know when you request hold at sort facility for pickup, it's free, but wanted to know for sure that it's also free to re-route to a FedEx store. Thanks.

It is definitely free to get it rerouted and held at a local FedEx Office store. Re-routing to another address (residential, another business, etc) incurs a fee, however.

Fed Ex stores. When I do it I think there are three store choices for me in my area.

Fedex stores. Was able to do it with this package but it turned out to be a bad idea because it's addressed to my brother, so he has to show ID to pick it up. Whoops. At least this will work out well in the future.
