I, unfortunately, have to go back to the area next week for the same reason. This time I’m staying in North Long Beach proper. Just wondering if there’s anything new to the area that would be good to know (lager, stout, WCIPA) or if this thread is still a good barometer of what’s good in the area. Definitely hitting that TW on Carson to stock up on way in. Should add, I guess. Unlike last year, there is no rush for a service, I am arriving midday Thursday and service is Saturday afternoon, so a brewery or a good restaurant with decent taps could be on the table.

    Bottlecraft LB at the Hanger.
    Thunderbolt Pizza
    Ambitious Ale
    Smog City
ISM Brewing (the old Beachwood location)
If you’re looking for cans to go Bottlecraft has a good selection compared to TW. TW has a lot more to choose from, but Bottlecraft will have better selection & fresher cans.
Don’t skip out on ISM in downtown LB. They have a good lunch deal T-F. Pretty much a free pint with the meal.

Will check these out on their IG pages, thank you. Got a 4-pack of the Smog City pils last year, thoroughly enjoyed it. Knowing my grandmother’s house, she is unfortunately the reason I travel to the LA-area this time, my cans I didn’t finish off last year are probably still in her fridge.

ISM is a must stop since your last visit, but other than that, not much else has changed.

    Thanks to you and @dcgunman
This place looks excellent, not far, practically exactly south of where I’ll be, and the tap list is right up my alley. Thanks much! :beers:
Do their cans make it out of the brewery by chance?

Yep Gunz has this on lock. There's also a Beachwood taproom on Atlantic that is walkable from Ambitious. Shoot me a message when you're in town if you'd like a beer buddy for an evening.

Not much further from this part of town there's also Ten Mile brewing who has great BBQ on Fridays and then Long Beach Beer Lab, which also serves food and has pretty great beers. Trademark is also worth a mention too.

Thanks for the offer! I’m in town for a death in the family and really not free too much so I’m kinda rolling with the punches as far as family is concerned. Everyone I’ve met on this site has been great so if by some chance I hit Ism and I got some time I’ll hit you up via DM.

Been going through the TW available list…intrigued by Moonlight and Edegren (unabashed lager boy here) and, to a lesser degree, Dust Bowl. Plus, have never had Kern River before. What are the locals thoughts on these breweries and especially Moonlight, which is pretty pricy for lagers (and I’m from NY!)?

I will recommend Kern River, but check the bottom for canning date. TW has many cans that 2+ months old. Some 6+ months old. So do your homework. Don’t be that guy who just grabs a 4pk and pays for it. No clue. Edegren & Moonlight are good choices for lagers/pils. I forgot about Beachwood. Good IPA’s.

If there’s no date on the can, and I have time, I’ll check the brewery’s IG page. If I’m in a rush or I don’t see a recent post, I don’t buy. I don’t care how good it is. My favorite is “Drink Fresh!!” And then the brewery doesn’t date the can. Like, huh?

Has anyone been to the Rasselbock Kitchen & Beer Garden? I see they are across the street from Ambitious. I would like to hear someone’s opinion

@guinness77 Definitely grab Enegren. Valkyriw and Nighthawk are god tier.
Moonlight is good as well, but i root for our Enegren boys.
KRBC is great but TW old beer stock notoriety.

    I wouldn't but ipas there.

Grab a Speedway single can while you're there

If you have the time & ability to go just a little north of LB, check out Two Coast Brewing in Gardena. I think they do some of the best german-style beers around outside of Enegren, and are much more accessible to where you'll be. https://www.twocoastbrewing.com/

It's pretty good! Nothing too fancy, just a classic german beer, schnitzel, and sausage joint. I'm there every other week or so for the food and a liter of beer. Sometimes before or after visiting Ambitious.

I second Rasselbock. Good German food and good selection of German beer.

I’ll second that recommendation of Two Coast. Had an incredible Hef. Also nearby is The Crac Brewery.
Two Coast is definitely worth the visit. If you do go it’s a bit hidden in a small industrial park all the way to the back. Also nearby is The Crac Brewery. They have a good smoked porter and rice lager, usually have a small menu.

Energen is hard to beat on quality or value. Moonlight is also very good. You won't be mad either way

I live walking distance from Rasselbach, they don’t have the typical IPA centric beer list, so I enjoy it for that. Directly across the street from Rasselbach is a l fairly high-end liquor store “Corked”They have one of the walk-in beer fridges, you should be able to find almost anything you would like there.

Have you had any Two Coast stuff?

Check our their Info...two crazy ass dudes from Hamburg! I've heard stories about them and love them so much for the tales they bring about
