If your making a $4$ trade does shipping get figured into that? I ask because if I send someone 2 6 packs for 2 bombers it will be a lot more expensive for me then for my trading partner. Just wondering. Thanks in advance for the responses. Cheers
That what I thought and in all of my previous trades I've never figured it in. But I just happen to wonder about it today and decided to ask. Thanks
Forgive me if I'm off here, but shouldn't the shipping cost be roughly the same given the equal distance between parties?
Party A may be shipping a 20lb pound box with a bunch of 12oz beers, while Party B may be shipping a couple of bombers or a costly 750ml with a total weight around 5lb or less. $4$ on beer price would match, but not on shipping costs.
Not if the boxes are different sizes. Also, I ship from work now (I assume others do as well) so I get our company discounts, which can be significant. I am sure that other BA's probably have similar setups. Bottomline is that it is impossible to really gauge shipping costs for the other party so I have never really seen it take any precedent in negotiating. Like the Dude said above though, I'm sure a good trader will compensate in extras.
I mean the difference in price between shipping the two packages in this particular scenario would be pretty small, were talking a 15lb box vs 7lb, I couldn't see the shipping differing by more than a couple bucks. I have ignored shipping because everyone can choose their method and as you said, some people have work accounts compared to some people who don't even make an account with fedex or ups but that just happens to be the luck of the draw sometimes.
You'd be surprised how much shipping can vary. I think my most extreme was when I traded about 5 or so 750's (mostly wilds and lambics which are already more expensive) for a boatload of New Glarus (which is generally fairly cheap and also 12 oz). I think I shipped a 10 lb box and he shipped 2 20 lb boxes. I threw in an extra beer beyond what I normally would and it still may have not offset the shipping.
I agree here. I ship to the office of one of my regulars and use FedEx ground. This saves at least $5 off home delivery due to certain fees. However, I did make the mistake of not remembering the fact that ground does not deliver on Saturday. That was embarrassing. I'm not sure about UPS, but I like the options that FedEx offers. Saturday delivery is definitely worth the extra couple bucks as it gives you a bit of cushion if, say, you sometimes have your wife drop off packages and she forgets to take them to the store. Home pickup is quickly becoming my best friend.
