Is a case defined by a volume of beer or the number of bottles? More to the point, when people talk about a case of 22oz beers, are there 12 or 24 bottles?

Awesome, thanks. I had been hearing about people buying cases of Hunahpu and Enjoy By and other 22oz bottles and it just seemed like a ridiculous amount of beer!

A case of Enjoy By seems like a ridiculous amount to me either way. It may be a limited release, but without even playing "beer hunter" I've now been able to buy it on four or five separate occasions, and only a bottle each time (except the first, where I got four pints spread across several kegs and several days).

Point being...I'm not a heavy drinker, and a dozen bottles of that in the span of a month makes me feel like I'd stop appreciating the beer. One bottle every few months helps keep it feeling like a special beer.

A case is just defined by it being a box with any number of bottles that a brewery decides to ship bottles in. Generally, a case has 24 of the 12-oz bottles, but a case is also defined as having 12 of the 22-oz bottles. I don't recall which BMC brewery had it, but there was a "cube" that I think had 30 cans. To me, that's still a case regardless of it having 30 cans.

Hunahpu comes in 750 ml bottles and 12 of them are a case as well.

Yup, most BMC's are available in 30 packs of cans outside of canned malt liquor. I have seen 12 packs of Mickeys, Old English, and Steel Reserve, though, and 4-packs of pints of the same.

I'd love to see a Mamas Little Yella Pils or Dales Pale Ale 30 pack "cube" or a SN Pale Ale cube. Or better yet, a Tenfidy cube, now that would be ridiculous!

If I bought a case of Enjoy By it would go bad, or I'd be completely sick of it before 4/20. :grinning: As much as I enjoy the beer, I just don't drink enough, and when I do, I enjoy different things. I couldn't see myself buying IPA in a case unless I were going to a party or something.

Last few cases I bought were Founders Breakfast Stout, Founders Imperial Stout, and Southern Tier Creme Brulee. The Breakfast Stouts have mostly been consumed, where as the most of the Imperial Stouts are aging. Not sure why I bought a whole case of Creme Brulee, but I do love this beer so...:flushed:

Isn't the idea that cases are meant for multiple people? Obviously hardly any one person is going to want to go through an entire case of Enjoy By before its due date, but for a party with several people on the other hand, that would make perfect sense.

I kinda assumed he was referring to a person buying it for themselves, but of course that's ideally what one would do with it. I sadly don't have that many beer loving friends so I think even a case of Enjoy By would be way too many for me, but if I were going to a party with a bunch of hop heads then absolutely.

I usually buy a couple bottles for myself and that's it, as as amazing as it is, that's not my favorite style, and Enjoy By is not that easy to get around here so I'd rather it go to real hop heads

Some reasons people get may cases of beers like that are:
    1) They are sharing it (already stated)
    2) It's a beer they can put in the cellar and drink over a few years.
    3) It's trade-bait they can use to get other beers. (See: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/forums/iso-ft-beer-only.25/ )

But for average people...yeah, it's a ridiculous amount of beer.

If I get a case of something it's like breaking the fifty... Once I crack it it won't last long. I can buy a single of something and resist its siren call, especially if it's something special, but give me 12 bottles and I'll double down on my drinking. Go figure.

My neighbors across the street have two empty Sam Adams Boston Ale cases out at their trash every week. That's 7 beers a day split between two adults. Which is a lot to drink.

It is only 3 bottles a week. ( or 2 a week if you don't mind going a little past the enjoy by date) That doesn't seem excessive to me if you really like Enjoy by
