I have found this site to be extremely valuable for travel info. I'm taking a very quick trip up to Reno tomorrow thru only Saturday night. I fly in around noon Friday and will be going directly to FiftyFifty where I've not been for at least three years. Staying in Reno. Questions: Best place to eat? Reno (and/or Truckee?) Any other "beer stuff" about which I should be aware? If anyone gets to me before tomorrow morning when I leave I'm happy to bring up some de Garde, Casey, Modern Times or other stuff and meet for an in person trade or for a beer or two. Thanks in advance! (By the way, and I've done this before which is great fun. Whomever gives me the best suggestion that I use will get a bottle of de Garde from me - my choice but they're all great!)
I like the Napa Bistro in the Atlantis. Also my fave sushi is @ Atlantis too. Also like Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse in the GSR. Beto's is my fave Mexican food. Go to Craft & BeerNV.
I've spent a ridiculous amount of time in Reno over the past 5+ years, I avoid the casinos for food/beer. Here are some of my favorite places to eat in Reno, most of which have decent beer options too: -Campo: Great spot on the River, outdoor or indoor seating, fantastic contemporary italian food, wood fired pizza, fresh local ingredients. Great beer/wine/cocktail options (decent beer bar next door, Olde Bridge Pub) -Sup: go for lunch -Old Granite Street Eatery -Midtown Eats -La Famiglia: amazing traditional Italian food, great wine and cocktails, not a beer spot. -4th Street Bistro, higher end, not a beer place. Great food. -Beaujolais Bistro, love this place. Food is amazing, usually a few local craft taps. -Brasserie Saint James, beer is definitely improving and the food is fun. breakfast: -Squeeze In -Peg's glorified ham and eggs: this place is sort of a local legend, greasy spoon, hangover cure. -Dish Cafe beer: -Craft for sure. Great spot -Public house -Chapel Tavern If I had to pick just one place for my meals, breakfast at Squeeze In, lunch at Sup and dinner at Campo beers at Craft, then Public House or Chapel Tavern.
I was just in Reno two weeks ago. I made it to Brasserie St. James (http://brasseriesaintjames.com/) for dinner and drinks. Really enjoyed a bottle of their plum lambic. Cool building too. The next day we hit The Brewer's Cabinet (http://thebrewerscabinet.com/) for lunch and drinks. Everything was pretty good. Both are located just South of the casinos.
Walterfredo "wins" a bottle of de Garde for the recomendation of 4th Street Bistro. Not a beer place but outstanding food -just like he said. I'll be contacting him to send me his address for his beer. Thanks.
Couple other notes for the future. Napa bistro best happy hour. Creme for breakfast. Check out sixfour growlers, happy hour is three to six. We didn't get to make it out there, but lots of good vibes from locals regarding imbib.
Great Basin Brewery. There are a couple. I prefer the one on Virginia Street since it is a bit quieter. Try the Outlaw Milk Stout with their Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup. It is amazing !
Hope you had fun visiting the area! Reno? Brasserie St. James. Absolutely. God, I love that place. Improving? They won best mid-size brewpub in the country at GABF in 2014. I'm not sure how much better you want them to be! Also a big fan of Centro and Naan & Kebab... I love Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/whatever-you-wanna-call-it food and this is some of the best I've ever had. Brewer's Cabinet is disgusting.
Well if your planning on heading up to Truckee I would head to tahoe mountain brewing co. They got some really good beers and two locations. The brewery and taproom in truckee and brewpub in tahoe city. I really like the party boy 100% brett IPA but they have other farmhouse's and other brews that I haven't had it. I say it be worth a stop if you have the time.
Well we all know these awards aren't always warranted. No way in hell they're the best mid size brewpub. The majority of their beers are mediocre at best. But the brewpub itself is shiny and purty, so maybe that's how they won! I've been visiting periodically since they opened and I'll stand by my "improving" comment. Good but definitely not great. Totally agree about Brewers cabinet.
