Background: I'm running a Fantasy Football league where each participant has to ante 1 "limited" beer (brewery-only release, once per year release without wide distro, etc.).

One guy has ante'd a Vanilla Framinghammer from Jack's Abbey.

Would you consider this beer to be "limited?"

    Thanks and cheers!

Not a brewery-only release anymore. Batch 1 from 2013 was. Pretty decently distributed, but not like it really sits on shelves, or anything. Once per year, normally, although two batches this year because of timing on next year's batch. Hope that helps.

A little more info... The last release of coffee and vanilla was distributed. I'm guessing this was about 3 or 4 months ago. They just released coffee and vanilla again about 2 weeks ago. This release, as of now, is brewery only. This week they also released the PB&J and coconut variants of Framinghammer. These are also brewery only as of now. I say, as of now, since there is some speculation that the beers may go into distro but probably not.

So IMO yeah the vanilla is a brewery only/limited release since as mushroom stated the distro'ed vanilla and coffee fly off the shelves and are hard to find one or two days after release.

    hth.

If the beer offered was Cocoa-Nut or PB&J there would be no argument about brewery - only status. I found that Vanilla hung around for a bit, but mainly because I picked up a few at Julio's who had a shit ton of it even a week after release. Personally I wouldn't push the issue because it's still quite limited and a damn good beer.

If this guy is from California also, then yes, it is quite limited I would imagine.

Maybe you should mention some of the beers others are putting up to compare?

So I asked the guy to up his ante, and he included a can of Petit Mutant. I think given that Vanilla Framinghammer was made twice this year, and is not brewery-only, and is 500 mL (compared to most of the league antes, which ate proper bombers), that seems to be fair to me.

Here are the other antes. Keep in mind, it would be pretty impossible to make sure each beer was perfectly balanced against the others. I'm just trying to get some semblance of fairness, while acknowledging that I don't really want to kick anyone out unless they really had no good ante at all.

Thanks! I learned it last year from another beer trader and I decided to take a stab at it this year. It's pretty fun, but it work best if you have players from all over the US so you can get variety in the pot.

Yea...based on the beers listed I think including Petit is pretty reasonable.

Also, in the future this type of thread should likely go in the Beer Trading Help forum.

If you want the guy in the league, then who cares. It is a beet, its not like he is trying to put in a Budweiser. I would worry more about my fantasy team...

As someone who had PB&J and Cocoa-nut this weekend, make him bring a bottle of each of those ;-). Great idea for a FF league and that is going to be a stelar lineup.

Hey, are you making the guy who put up Mexican Cake up his ante too? Not brewery only, and much more widely distributed than vanilla framing hammer.if you did it for one, should do it for both.

With the petit mutant it looks harder to obtain than a few things on that list. The whole thing is a very cool idea.

Yes, but a once per year thing, compared to Van Framinghammer, which seems to be twice this year. I'm gonna let it slide.

Hey, your game, your rules. But the vanilla framing hammer comes out once per year and won't be seen again now for another year.the fact it came out twice this year as an exception to the rule seems rather inconsequential, at least to me.

I see it as trying to get to some approximate fairness based on: release, amount made, size of bottle, relative demand, etc.
