From a local business paper: http://bellinghambusinessnews.com/2014/11/17/aslan-brings-organic-flavor-bellingham-brewery-scene/
LOL@ "The owners of Aslan Brewing are Pacific Northwest to the core. Each one sports a thick beard, can often be spotted in flannel." Gimme a friggin break.
No, I don't. I've gotten to know them a bit, and they're good guys, they're sincere, and I think they'll do well long-term. They poured a lot of themselves into getting the place going, and it seems like they are truly invested in their brewery, and the community. But they got off to a bumpy start. The beers are improving, the service issues mentioned in the article are getting taken care of, and they're learning how the industry really works. The place is always busy, and they've already developed a solid group of loyal regulars. So, I don't have it out for them, but I'm not going to tell them, or you, that everything is rosy. I am not a shy person, I will open my mouth, and have to them. They've listened, and given good responses. I don't want a bad brewery anywhere, let alone in my town, and I would think most BAs would have a similar attitude. If a new brewery near you were making decisions you thought were not in their best interests, wouldn't you say something? But, you've gotta see that mural in person. It's jarring, to say the least.
I've been in that situation and actually didn't say anything, despite being friendly with the owner, who is an awesome guy. I didn't know how to broach the subject. That brewery is no more.
Well, I'm a little short on tact, subtlety, and social graces in general. Add in that I'm from the East Coast, and grew up in a family where you spoke your mind, or didn't speak, and I'm just blunt. Sometimes I come across as being rude or mean, when the truth is, I'm just not bright enough to figure out a softer way of saying things. Like I said, I want them to succeed. What makes it a contrast is that Wander opened simultaneously, and didn't make near the number of missteps. Aslan is improving and growing, and that's a good thing.
