Heard some mention of this. I think they could've made market presence happen 5 years ago, now not so sure. What say ye?
Yea, it is definitely happening. Is any of their stuff worth purchasing? I know I have had some of their offerings before, but nothing really stands out. http://www.craftbeer.com/news/brewery-news/rahr-sons-brewing-co-to-begin-distribution-to-oklahoma
I don't see them around very much in Houston (or maybe I just don't notice them). They make fine beer but nothing worth buying consistently.
They don't do a whole lot of off-the-wall stuff, so they don't get talked about much. But their core brands, while unappealing to the average beer geek, are really solid. Definitely some winners in their To Thee series as well, though there's a couple that I haven't tried.
I think there are several more DFW area breweries making better beer. While I've never disliked any of their beers, I've never gone out my way to look for any of them or purchase them. Certainly doesn't mean others may not love them though. I know Cedar Creek distributes in OK. I would say it's worth seeking out Dankosaurus or Elliott's Phoned Home from them.
I've tried a few of theirs, the only that really impressed me was their Ugly Pug Black Lager. My tastes changed quite a bit since then, so I'm not even sure I can get excited by that. So far the Cedar Creek stuff is pleasing me.
I think that their Ugly Pug is very good. I live in FW and really enjoy going to their brewery to hang out and have a few beers. Lots of great people that work there and a brewery that paved the way for others in the area IMO.
Agreed. A few years ago their beers would've been welcomed & they could've developed a loyal following, but now their beers are just going to get lost on the shelf. But if they can land any draft accounts at casinos, concert & sporting venues &/or if they can get their bottles in at a price point around Leinenkugels or Shiner then they might do alright especially if the refrigeration laws change. No surprise, but Texas breweries have always been hesitant to come into OK+ Cheers!
