Rainier had a launch party for it at MOHAI this past Friday. Couldn't really glean much from the Untappd checkins, but I'm curious to try it.

I asked at my local Haggens and was pleasantly surprised that although they weren't (as far as the beer lady knew) going to carry it, they could special order it for me. So I'm waiting for them to call me. Fingers crossed.

Which Haggen do you go to? I usually hit the Meridian store, as it's near my buddies house.

Pabst did not buy the Rainier brewery when it and Miller divided up the brands and breweries of Stroh (which had bought Heileman in 1996) - it was Stroh which closed the Seattle brewery as it left the brewing business in 1999.
Sick only licensed the "Rainier" brand name for the PNW region, paying a royalty to the Rainier Brewing Co. of San Francisco - he did not gain ownership of the brand until 1953 when the S.F.-based company went out of business, the brewery sold to Hamm's and the "Rainier" brand to Sick. For the first two decades after Repeal, much of the Rainier Old Stock Ale - "The West's Largest Selling Ale " - sold was probably brewed by the larger, unrelated Rainier Brewing Company, with breweries in S.F. and, in the 1940's, in the Vernon section of L.A.

Seattle Times article today says in stores by the end of this week. 16oz bottles, $12/6 pack.

$12 for a sixer? Jesus. Didn't see that coming.

Yeah. Too expensive for the BMC crowd & once the initial needs are filled don't see much of a following.

They went with 16 oz bottles, but the price point is still probably too high.

I'll get a single at Total Wine or Bottleworks, if they carry it.

I think this is more aimed at us, more than the regular Vitamin R drinker. But, $2 more than a sixer of F41? Even with 96oz vs 72, it's prolly one&done for me. Unless I like it, then it might become a grab for cookouts, tailgates, and stuff like that.

Man, I wish one of those was near me. The one in Liberty Lake (too far away to be useful, anyway) came and went so fast the first I knew of it's existence was when it's closure was mentioned on the local news.

Yeah, except for 15 core stores that will keep the name, Haggen stores are all now Albertsons.

16oz bottles instead of 12oz accounts for part of that, but yeah, this isn't targeted at the typical Rainier drinker.

Which is what the LL one was, previously. Haagen's really bit off more than they could chew buying those stores.

Oh yeah, that Florida company that bought Haggen a few years ago really screwed the pooch trying to buy Albertsons. Haggen now only exists as a name. They're keeping the 5 Whatcom county stores under the Haggen brand (while they just closed the only Albertsons branded store in Bham), and 10 others in NWWA.
