Sounds like you're in the Richmond area.

In my experience, the Lager is fairly ubiquitous. I see the Steam beer here and there but not too often.

Total Wine has (or had) 12 bottle samplers. Whole Foods had a large inventory of the Our Special Ale. Otherwise, I haven't seen anything else from Anchor. YMMV.

Though they have a smaller portfolio than Sierra Nevada, I hold them both in the same esteem. I DO wish the Anchor beers were priced lower.

That's interesting that Anchor is the most expensive craft beer at your market. I realize I'm in California, thus it's cheaper for me, but Anchor is usually the cheapest craft beer for me. It's usually $7.99/six pack here while most other craft 6 packs are $9.99-$10.99. And also interesting that you found 12 packs of the California Lager out there when I usually only see 6 packs here. I'd for sure grab that 12 pack if you're a lager fan.

Man... would love to get any of the Anchor brews for $7.99, that is a steal....I am sure geography / distro distance plays a big part as to why it is so much more in the Midwest / eastern US versus CA.....a small whole food's like chain in Columbus had several Anchor 6 pks on sale for $8.99, which is $1-2 less than normal here.....

The beers are worth it, wish more places carried all of them in my area!!

I'm mainly referring to the California Lager and Steam Beer at that price but I do see the porter, Our Special Ale,
and Barleywine in the $7.99-$9.99 (on the high side) range.
That's a bummer but I'd still grab some at those prices. To be honest, based on the prices here, I'd always assumed they were relatively cheap everywhere. I'm surprised to hear about the (pretty big) price difference regardless of location. I'm just happy and thankful to be able to buy Anchor at the prices that I am.

Color me "Anchor envious"...wow....if I could get Old Foghorn for that kind of price, my liver would be in for some serious trouble!

To be honest I have never been a huge Anchor fan. No disrespect intended.

I was just going to mention how much I enjoyed their balanced IPA..I see I need to get another 6er as I haven't reviewed it.

I'm sorry, the Old Foghorn is $10.99 here. All else were at the prices I mentioned though. Still an amazing deal for an awesome Barleywine!

Anchor was my favorite brewery from around 77' through the early 80s...

    None taken!

We all have our favorites and breweries that are "special" in some way to us as beer drinkers.....to me, Anchor has been in my life since I was a young lad, and I am amazed at what they have been able to accomplish over these many decades....plus, I think their beers are really good! I think sometimes we lose sight of what makes a brewery / company a success.....Anchor to me epitomizes a very successful and historic brewery that still does things right!

Indeed!! A very delicious barleywine, at less than $2.00 bottle is a great deal!

Love steam and Cali Lager. They may not be talked about because everybody talks about the trendy beers. The beers that are barrel aged, over hopped and I guess now sours. Anchor hasn't done anything besides make good quality beers that aren't the big trend.

All this love going out to the Anchor Porter reminds me that it has been an age since I've grabbed on to some.
Thank you for putting it on my list. We just had a lot of snow, and that means dark and chewy beer in my book.

Huge fan of Porter and Steam here. Huge. There really aren't better beers in these styles for the low-ish price. (Central NY here, nowhere near the city, the typical Anchor stuff is 9.99 to 10.99 per six.) A case or two of the Porter makes it home with me every year. Have had Liberty (very nice, yet other IPAs usually tilt my whirl) and Humming (interesting, not a re-purchase) and see the CaliLager (bad dates? price of 10.49 per 6 not tempting, I haven't bit yet) and Foghorn (I'm not a big BW guy). Never seen their other beers, but always hoping to try them. From the evidence I've seen, Anchor really do make beer the way it should be made, and more credit to them for doing it since the late 60s, thus keeping alive the almost invisible tradition of real beer here in the US.

This is one of my favorite brewers. Steam, California Lager & Porter are very nice beers. I often suggest Anchor to people who are new to craft beer.

Anchor Porter is a top version of the style and easily my favorite. Haven't had their other offerings in a while, I might need to revisit those. Looking forward to trying the Saison.

Grab some.....it is great! I bought 1 sixer, drank one, and then went out and got another 6 pk of the Saison.....it is really good and a nice variation....it has lemongrass, lemon peel and ginger, and at 7.2% abv, it will buzz you!
