Found a few bottles from '07 sitting on a shelf at a tucked away place for $8.99 each. I haven't had this brew before and have been wanting to try it. Do you think $8.99 is a "fair" price? Thanks.
I tried this beer about 4 or 5 years ago and it cost $10 or so for the entire six pack. No more? Personally, couldn't stand the beer, drank 1 and gave the remaining 5 to my roommate. Luckiest roommate ever sounds like.
I b'lee you're talking about this beer http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/1180 When everyone else in this thread is talking about this beer http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/3089
Yes, buy it. I have three cases in my cellar from the last three years it was produced. I tried the 07 recently it was very nice.
I kick myself for not buying more. I fell out of the style for a while and concentrated on buying all kinds of stouts. Aside from WWS, it's my favorite DFH release.
overpaid? nah, raison d'extra, WWS, 120min, almost always priced like that. worth it? i think there's some extreme bottle variation. weirdly, i thought the 2007 that i reviewed was horribly oxidized, like a big "we were just fucking with you," regarding the whole "ages with the best of them," boast. i later had a 2005 and liked it a lot more. think it depends a lot on storage conditions and getting lucky on the cap keeping evil oxygen out of the beer.
Eh, it's beer. Rogue's 5 oz. bottle of Imperial Stout is $6, Beer Geek Brunch Weasel is $14 a bottle, Bourbon County Brand Stout is $7 or $8 a bottle...I've tried and loved them all, but the only way I knew whether they were worth it was by trying them. Sort of defeats the purpose of "Is it worth it?" when you have to buy it to try it, but I say go for it - who knows, it might be your favorite beer. Personally, it's in my Top 5 or 6 beers ever, so after trying it, I'd definitely pay $8.99 for another bottle or two.
