I'll be in Raleigh one weekend in September but will only have time to visit ONE brewery and maybe ONE store. I see there are a number of choices, so I was hoping that I could receive a little assistance in figuring out which one of each I'll try and shoot for. As for what I truly enjoy the most, I am for the most part an IPA / IIPA guy. I don't necessarily need to seek out the place with a great sour / saison / barrel program if there are better IPA crafters around. One more thing I must mention is that we get Lonerider distro in VA, so I'd likely pass on it in lieu of something I can't normally get my hands on. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Brewery - Trophy Brewing = Good beer, good pizza & good people.

Store/Bottle Shop - Tasty Beverage always has a stellar bottle selection & there's typically always something solid on tap. They'll also be more than happy to open a bottle for you to enjoy in-house if you choose to pick something off the shelf/cooler.

Hope this helps & hope you have an awesome visit!

If you're forcing me to select one of each:

    Brewery = Trophy

Bottle Shop = Bottle Revolution (but there are others and I like them all)

Yea Bottle Revolution would be my vote. Barely nudging out Tasty.

Brewery has to be Trophy. No one else in Raleigh is doing a stellar IPA. If you want sours, then Sub Noir is clearly your choice.

Best brewery in town is Raleigh Brewing, in my opinion. A number of them are great...Trophy, Crank Arm, Lynnwood, but to me they're the best. Not sure about bottle shops.

If you're real pressed for time, Crank Arm is literally around the corner from Tasty.

I personally think Lynnwood is making the best hoppy beers in Raleigh and it's close to House of Hops (where I've only been once, but they seemed to have a pretty good selection).

If what you're looking for is a Raleigh brewery with a good hoppy beer, then there's only two options in my mind, Lynnwood and Trophy. If Lynnwood still has Hubris on when you come (which is probably unlikely by mid-September), then go there because it's the best hoppy beer in NC. If not, and Trophy has Double Death Spiral on, then go there and get that, next best option.

For shops, if your main objective is to drink there then go to Ridgewood. If your main objective is to get bottles to take home then go to Tasty.

And this is why I ask the question - great responses and a near consensus on where to go. Better than any travel directory ever!

Sounds like Trophy it is, and since bottle shop was a near tie between Tasty and Revolution, I'll probably go with whichever one is closest to either the hotel or the hockey rink.

Thank you all for the awesome help!

Bottle Rev is closest to the hockey rink.

Be aware Trophy gets very crowded on the weekends and only has 5 taps. Thier beer is great, but unless I am going there early, I wouldn't do it if I was tight on time. I would opt for Lynnwood in that case, especially if Hubris is on.

Both Bottle Revolution and Tasty are great shops, Bottle Revolution has more taps and everything is available as a single which might be an advantage.

Check out State of Beer as well. Same owners as Busy Bee. Cool bottle shop. They usually have some bottles hanging around that are usually gone in other stores.

Trophy posts its taplist every day on social media, I'd take a look at it before you go and see if anything sounds good to you and if not maybe try somewhere different. I know DDS just kicked a few days ago, so maybe a fresh batch will be out by the time you visit.

In addition to Hubris, Lynnwood also has a good standard IPA called Hop on Top. Best regular IPA in the area for me. Bottle shops have it on pretty often.

Ridgewood Wine and Beer is pretty close to Bottle Rev as well. You can check out both. It's right off wade next to the whole foods so it's close to the arena. They have a great draft line up (16 taps) and room to hang out. They don't have as much package beer but it's worth a visit.

Also, the owner of Bottle Revolution is a huge Pens fan if that's something that matters to you.

I'm happy to see any hockey support in the south, but being a Pens fan certainly gives them an edge in the "all things being equal" selecting of a shop to go to! Thanks for the heads up!

Bottle Rev and Ridgewood are really close to each other too, while Tasty is more downtown than those, as is State of Beer.

@CavemanRamblin was a lot of help in planning my recent trip to Raleigh. Per ^ I went to both Tasty and State of Beer and while Tasty had a bigger selection I thought the staff at State of Beer was incredibly nicer and more helpful. Being out of state I had plenty of questions - folks at Tasty were fine but felt like they were working around me where SoB made me feel like they wanted to help me find stuff I'd love as much as they do.
