A kolsch is one of my favorites to have this time of year, but I haven't noticed as many this summer compared to last. I know White Street's is a staple, but I haven't seen a lot of others, whether from local breweries, or from breweries outside the area at local bottle shops. Does anyone share this observation, and if so, is it COVID-related, or were breweries just not going to make them anyway? Granted, I haven't been to every brewery or bottle shop lately, so if I'm missing some good ones, I'd appreciate some recommendations!

I have also not seen many at any of the local to me bottle shops (NC Triad) or coming from NC breweries. I have seen a lot more lagers coming from NC breweries this year though - maybe they have replaced Kölsch beers with other summer heat friendly styles this year?

Wise Man (Winston-Salem) has a pretty good Kolsch called Dance in the Sun that should be out now in cans at most bottleshops.

Burial's Billows hoppy Kolsch is a killer beer, but I don't think they've made a fresh batch in quite a while. Keep an eye out anyways.

Flying Machine (Wilmington) has a new batch out of their Vimana Kolsch that is pretty tasty.

Mother Earth (Kinston) makes a year-round Kolsch called Endless River. It isn't as "hip and trendy" as some of the others, but it is well made and refreshing on a hot day. Bonus points if you have it at their taproom where they serve it in a Kolsch glass.

Carolina Brewery's Sky Blue is a Kolsch. Not the most perfect take on the style IIRC, but definitely light and crushable.

Dirtbag Ales (Fayetteville-ish) does a Blood Orange Kolsch. I would put it in the shrug category.

Big Boss used to make a Kolsch called Angry Angel. I haven't seen it around in forever, but if they still make it, consider it also in the "shrug" category.

Aviator does one called 3 Bones. I wouldn't spend 3 bones on a 6-pack of this one.

A couple more to add to the list.

    Clouds Brewing Front Street Kolsch
    Dsslvr Thank You For Existing
Oaklyn Springs Kolsch(crowler only at the taproom)

Hopfly also did one recently, but forget the name. I haven’t tried a Flying Machine’s, but none of the kolsch listed here or above are world class examples of the style, but passable. If you ever are in Richmond, see if Triple Crossing has their kolsch on, it’s perfection.
