I'm going to be in Raleigh, NC this weekend. I will be staying at the Double Tree on Hillsborough Street. I've done a little research on here and found that Trophy, Raleigh Brewing & Crank Arm are pretty close by the hotel , as is Tasty Beverage. Any recommendations for local beers to try and/or take home?

Any of the Wicked Weed sours and their IPA Freak of Nature/Pernicious.

    Eat at Bida Manda.

You'll be near Raleigh Beer Garden too.

skip the raleigh beer garden. we were just there saturday and the service is horrendous, food is alright and the prices on many of the beers are higher than most shops.

State of Beer is near by also, worth checking out on the way to Tasty and Crank Arm. They usually have some good draft on and occasional jem lurking on the shelf.

It's more of a novelty thing. Might as well see what all the fuss is about on the world record front. But there are many stronger watering holes around.

Don't go home without some Wicked Weed Pernicious.
Lynnwood Brewing has become a favorite of mine in the area

I hope to find some Pernicious. Any Raleigh specific beers worth chasing?

Raleigh Brewing BA The Miller's Toll is delicious and worth grabbing if you see it. Lindley Park, Event Horizon and Cubano Walker from Olde Hickory are all pretty good and should be out there. Hop, Drop and Roll (the dice) is sometimes good and Jade IPA from foothills is also really nice.

Aviator Night Jump Imperial Stout. Not Raleigh, but I'll throw in Wicked Weed Freak of Nature and Highland's new IPA as well.

You may also stumble across Sexual Chocolate on tap at a few places.

On the Belgian side, I personally think Fullsteam's First Frost is a really tasty beer from the area, pretty much anything from Haw River is worth a try (Rusted Plow, Beneath the Feet of Orion and Brahklava are out in large format), and Ponysaurus's bier de garde is solid for the style.

Haw River in general is my favorite brewery in the "Triangle". And if you go to BeerStudy in Chapel Hill its only another 15-20 minutes. Also check out Als if you go to BeerStudy.

I like Haw River as well, but that Brah'klava was probably the worst beer I've had in recent memory. Hate to say it, but just not good. Now Rusted Plow, that's a good one. Haven't had the Orion one in the bottle yet, but the draft version was solid.

As far as Raleigh beer specifically, Trophy's offerings are the best you'll find at the current time IMO. No bottles only draft, but you will likely find some on tap at local bottle shops or you could go to one of their two locations. The one nearest to you is the original and has great pizza, but it will only have 4-5 beers on draft. The new location on Maywood doesn't have food but has way more beers on tap. Trophy Husband is my current favorite.

Looks like you'll miss the new batch of Hubris by one weekend, but Lynnwood may still be worth a stop.

I loved Brah'klava. So much so I bought a second bottle.

Trophy brewing has the best pizza anywhere and a solid line up of beers. crank arm and raleigh brewing are great places with a decent beer line up. Raleigh brewing Millers Toll and Hell Yes Ma'am are worth the trip.

lynwood brewing concern's hop on top is yummy. big boss has $1 beers on saturday. skip the beer garden.

Will Trophy be crazy on Friday evening?

For sure. Your best bet is to avoid going at what could reasonably be considered normal dining hours.

As for beers to seek out Sexual Chocolate just dropped in the triangle, and there's still some Raleigh Brewing Raleighwood floating around (it's a bourbon barrel-aged old ale), and that new tequila barrel-aged sour from Wicked Weed.

I wouldn't walk in there at 8 pm on a Friday and expect to get an immediate table for a party of 4, no. But if you're just one or two people looking to sit at the bar then you'll likely be able to find a spot after a few minutes of scoping it out. Or just eat elsewhere and go to the new location and don't worry about it.

But yeah, in general it will be crazy at little Trophy on a Friday night.
