Unfortunately, I dragged my heels on getting around to ordering a Randall Jr. after I heard about them being available on the DFH site, and now they're sold out. I've heard a lot of BAs compare its function to that of a simple loose leaf tea infuser, or even a french press/travel mug with built-in press. Does anyone have a specific recommendation on a good model they've used? Is glass an option? I'm sure many of us would love to know of something comparable to the Randall Jr. in terms of price, functionality, and build quality. Thanks!

Boodum French coffee press works good!

This is what I would recommend, too, though I don't have any attachment to Bodum as a particular brand.

Yup, a french press is perfectly viable.

Drinking beer that is brewed so the Randall Jr. gimmick is not necessary is my preferred option.

I work at Starbucks and would recommend a french press for any infusions you want to do. The Randall Jr. is just a flashy tea infuser with a dogfish head logo on it. Those things should only cost around 10 bucks.

I figured as much, but I was concerned with things like the permeability of the mesh strainer, and if, say, the Randall Jr. has a coarser gauge strainer to prevent beer from being pushed through with too much pressure and therefore diminishing its carbonation or anything else that optimizes the Randall for this purpose over a regular French press.

Yeah its nothing more than a normal infuser with the logo stamped on. Any press or infuser would work just as well. I've got hops growing and at the end of the summer plan on throwing them into my french press for some experiments.
