I think Barley John's has a solid ipa

Fair enough...need to try Boom Island and Northgate I guess. I had Tin Whiskers lower on my initial ranking but moved them up based on my latest experience. I have never had any issues with Insight...don't love their beers but they are solid. I may have them too high though now that I look at it. More "Good" than "Very Good"

That's the danger with a list like this. It has been over a year since I have been there so my placing may be unfair with their current product....I debated on dropping those places I haven't been to in the past six months but then it would be a very short list...

Shit totally forgot Fulton. I need to place them as I've had plenty of their beers. Freehouse is on my list to hit but haven't gotten there yet.

I just did a five beer blind IPA taster with Alpine Duet, Founders Azzereca, Sierra Tropical IPA, TG Psuedo Sue, and F-Town IPA....F-town stuck out like a sore thumb to get clicheish...just a bad bitterness...yeah some homebrewness to it....I had it last week after a few beers and thought it was ok and their brown is fine...but definitely deserve to drop them...and yes Hammerheart may deserve a bump up but they are pretty one or two dimensional...smoke...barrel aged....good things and they do great stuff but I may have held them back due to lack of versatility.

Great thought. I like Bauhaus but was hoping they would be more traditional with their lagers. Instead they mostly Americanized and i have had some slightly off beer from them before. Don't get me wrong. I'd gladly drink their beer but they are not the traditional German-like Brewery I was hoping for.

I see a few noting Insights issues but I must have dodged bullets because I have not experiences that and I just burned a $50 gift card there recently.

Kind of wonder if you're giving 612 too much credit...

No problem, thank you for the list. As a result, I am going to check out Able tomorrow afternoon.

I wouldn't change the rating but Herkimer doesn't sell growlers so you should probably take them off the list.

I think they could if they wanted though and did in the past so unless I am wrong on that I'll keep them on...if I am wrong just let me know

Report in with your thoughts....curious to hear others opinions..definitely try a full pint of the IPA...not sure the sampler does it justice..

As for Beaver Island. The first couple of times I thought it was average...not bad...not great... The last couple of times I thought they deserved a tick up in category but it could go the other way in the future just as easily. I like Lupulin as well and rate them higher on the list. I like they fill any growler too unlike Beaver and Hays which has deterred me from making a trip out there.

I want to point out this list is fluid and I'll reshape it every month of so. I appreciate the comments and feedback on other experiences at some of these places. Before posting I had been tweaking it off line for about two months before I just finally decided to post it. It will be reworked again in a month or so when hopefully I have some new places to add.

The people who own Herkimer also own Moto-i the sake brewpub. From my understanding they can only sell off site at one location, and they choose to sell 750's of sake at Moto-i.

I completely agree with the fact that they are an Americanized German brewery. However, they are very open about that so I give them a little bit a leeway. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have Kloster Andechs transplanted into Minneaolis, but I'll settle for a brewery that makes a quality schwartzbeir while I wait.

I do not mind one or two dimensional breweries. I actually wish more new/young breweries would work on a certain style of beer instead of brewing one of each style.

Nobody ever talks about russian river's brown ales or stouts but their IPAs and sours are world class. Obviously not comparing hammerheart to russian river but hammerheart is excellent at what they do.

Give LTD a try, I would put them in the Very Good category.

I wish Bauhaus would brew a Kolsch.

That's all I have for now :sunglasses:

I was told by a friend that works there that they can't sell growlers because Moro-I has the growler license. Apparently the law only allows the owner to have 1 growler license. I don't believe moto-I does any off sale either though.
