Ranking widely available IPAs in MD

    After being spoiled by a buddies trip to VT and him bringing me home Green IPA, Sip of Sunshine, Heady and Second Fiddle... I was thinking about this last night and am curious your thoughts. Of the IPAs listed below which would you consider best of breed or top 3. Feel free to add unlisted options if I'm missing any.

    -Ballast Point Sculpin
    -Bells Two hearted
    -Bells HopSlam (when released)
    -DFH 90 min
    -DFH 60 min
    -Evolution Lot 3
    -Firestone Dbl Jack
    -Firestone Union Jack
    -Green Flash West Coast IPA
    -HS Loose Cannon
    -SN Torpedo
    -SN Hoptimum
    -Stone IPA
    -Stone Enjoy By

    You're mixing IPAs with IIPAs (which a lot of people consider different breeds). That being said, I would throw Union Double Duckpin in the discussion as well, but with what you have listed I would take (in no particular order):

    Enjoy By
    Hopslam
    Double jack

    Fair point re IIPA and IPA. Wanted to keep this as broad as possible.

    I would put Double Duckpin in the top spot for my tastes.

    +1 on double duckpin, and I would throw in Evo Lot 6 as well.

    The hoppy beers I typically buy locally are Enjoy By, Lagunitas Sucks, and Double Duckpin. Those 3 stand head-and-shoulders above the rest IMO. And yes, I know they're all DIPAs.

    Double Duckpin is the best beer brewed in MD imo. Double Jack, Loose Cannon and Sucks are my other go-to's.

    100% agree on Double Duckpin, but I do dig fresh Flying Dog The Truth or DuClaw Neon Gypsy. Actually, had fresh Loose Cannon last night and was shocked. It almost was as good as when it first was good. :wink:

    If you're consider IIPAs, there's also Lot 6, although I take Double Duckpin over it by a slim margin (when Lot 6 is fresh - a rare occurrence). Also, if you're considering stuff recently available (but not available long-term) two of the Flying Dog single hop offerings have been excellent (HBC 431 a couple months ago and the current offering made from Columbus hops). Speaking of Flying Dog, you should add The Truth. That's available everywhere, including Camden Yards.

    Haven't had FD the Truth. I've passed over it a number of times. I'll have to give it a try. What about DC Brau? Didn't think about them .

    There's many good ones, far too many to list ... really comes down to me for splitting hairs for favorites to be found in the MD area.

    I didn't include OTWOA and Solar Abyss because they aren't really that available in MD. You can get OTWOA at the brewery every few weeks or so, but it basically doesn't hit distro in MD outside of a few places. Solar Abyss is even less accessible. Everything else that's been mentioned has extremely wide availability.

    The following have also been hitting the shelves with relative regularity:

    Maine Lunch
    Maine Another One
    Elysian Space Dust
    Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

    My favorites from those mentioned are probably Lunch, Enjoy By, Double Jack, and Sculpin.
