A brewery that cares about the people that get their beers in trade?!? Thats the most awesome thing I have ever seen from ANY brewery.

I just got back from CCB, opened a Rare with friends there and it was bad, real bad. Passed it over to Zeus at the bar and the smell alone turned him away.

Upon returning home I cracked a RareR and it's bad too. I ultimately got 6 Rares and 3 each of the Nooner and RareR. I've got a real bad feeling going on...

Not an issue of handling, theyve been cooled since I got them and I even used electrical tape to secure the caps.

    This, for me too.

Although obviously with the addition of locals, it is spiraling into something more.

I have a few bottles left, I may just drink them all tonight and see.

Had anybody else had problems with RareR and Nooner? I haven't opened some of mine yet since I had them on tap the day of release. I was hoping the infection was limited to Rare.

It's not subtle, the smell will knock your socks off as its clearly not what your expecting when you open the bottle.

Met Doug at the Cantina tonight, he seemed committed to figuring out what's happened and making it right.

So if i am 8/8 so far in bottles being perfect, does that make my case more Rare? Or perhaps Rarer?

My other dilemna is, after cracking one so early now WHAT can i follow it up with tonight that could possibly be as delicious?

I was planning on saving my one and only Rare & Nooner for Huna day bottle share. Sounds like I should change my plans and try them sooner just in case? ::conflicted::

I'm hoping a few of mine made it through okay, it was pretty dissappointing to have something so fantastic turn into a mess in a few short weeks. Oh well, what can you do?

Is this only limited to Rare? maybe i'll open that one sooner and save nooner for Huna day.

I have been trying to figure that out too. I have only seen one mention of bad RareR in all the the threads (in this thread by wiltznucs) and no mentions of bad Nooner.

I've had issues with Rare and RareR. The Rare had a very overt funky ammonia/vinegar odor and poured very thin. Not at all like the viscous Rare you would expect. I couldn't imagine drinking it.

The RareR was similar, a bit of funky odor was there but you could pick up the beer too when smelling it. I initially wrote it off as one of those beers that smells different when on tap as opposed to from bottles since my only other experience with RareR was on draft. After a taste I picked up the vinegar and I poured the remainder down the sink.

I'm thinking Rare was defintely infected, perhaps the RareR was simply not well sealed? Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part as I have a few more RareR and Nooners...

Matt, sounds like you need a hug. A couple of notes:
    • They found out after the keg had popped that people were complaining about Double Jelly Donut, not while serving and not before. I specifically remember quite a few people enjoying it (including me, although I'm not all that sensitive to that particular chemical in the beer). Stop insinuating that they knowingly sold you a beer that you wouldn't like.
    • Had you been to that Berliner Bash you'd know that he pulled (actually, threw) the Jelly Donut keg after getting a complaint from someone about it. Which would explain why he wouldn't fill a growler of it for you or anyone else. Maybe you could've inquired about some other way for them to make it up to you? Stop by and let them buy you a beer or meal? Hell, it probably would've been solved had you just given the feedback to them at the time that you ordered the beers.
    • The first complaint about these growlers didn't surface until a week after they sold out. Lots of them were opened before that without issue. It's an extremely small operation (it's run out of a fucking converted bungalow, fercryinoutloud) and it's not like they have someone doing full-time QA. Why insinuate -- twice in one post, no less -- that they're knowingly selling bad beer? You know they're not; it'd kill their business. They're doing all that they can to fix the problem even though it's going to cost them substantially because IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO FUCKING DO.
I don't work for them but consider them friends. I know you have some strong opinions but this seems out of line even for you. Stop bashing a tiny brewery when they're trying their best to make bad situation right. You're a brewer yourself; you should be supporting them.
