Could those beers age well? A friend of mine who has loads of beer said he's been aging some and gave them to me. For those who might think "some friend, giving you outdated beer", I can't complain because this guy shared a bottle of Westy 12 with me.

They should be just fine but I doubt the age really helped them a whole lot.

I'd actually really like to try Hennepin with some time on it. Let us know how they stack up!

Hennepin in general will age better than Vos. In perfect conditions, both will age and take on new and favorable characteristics, but the Hennepin especially.

Ommegang aged Hennepin, Abbey, and 3phils for a while in Howe Caverns, a nearby cavern tourist-attraction. The Hennepin stored down there was awesome...but a lot of its awesomeness was likely due to the placebo/I-just-payed-10-dollars-more-for-this-bottle-cuz-it-was-cave-aged-effect.

In theory, a steady basement or beer fridge would have produced the same results. As long as you've followed the general rules (no light, constant cool temps), you should have some awesome beer on your hands. I've tried plenty of aged Hennepin, but I'd be curious to see what you think of the Rare Vos.

I will let everyone know what they are like once I get to try them.

Yeah, not sure about Hennepin, but don't think a 6.5% guy would be a suitable candidate in the cellar. See if your friend has any old 3 Philosophers!

i only payed an extra $2/bottle for the cave aged 3p in 2008 and it was absolutely worth it

I'm letting the 06 Hen get cold now. How likely is it that I can get sick from it?

Drinking the 06 Hennepin now. It isn't bad, tastes like a tart, dry sparkling white wine. I guess its safe to drink.

Bah.. Twas ok at first but as it started warming up in the glass, it tasted funny. Finished the pint, poured another one and tasted worse. Drain pour. At least the most of the first glass was ok.

I guess that probably means the Rare Vos won't be good either. Turds.

IMO 6 years might be a stretch for H & RV.
