As much ridiculousness as there is out there today, there are still tons of fantastic traders on the scene, including many new ones. You just need to wade through a bit more shit than in the past to get to them...

It's not all about winning. Sometimes it's about hooking up a trader you have a history with.

I know heyta, and those traders are getting hooked up by me.

I have to ask... what is the issue here? Depending on what the "released yesterday beer" is, there shouldn't be an issue with this type of trade request. Blabaer is a highly sought after beer, that some new releases should and could have a shot at landing, a la multiple of Juicy or the most recent release of Cable Car.

Don't get me wrong, I've only been here 6 months, and even I recognize that the trade forums can be a crapshoot. But being jaded and lumping things together in the manner you did is just silly and doesn't solve anything.

Have you looked at the reviews on both sites? Many of the growlers that were sold in March got great rates as recently as last week.

I'm still trying to get a GI Rare for (2) RareR DOS growlers and only got 1 maybe reply out of 300 views. Back to the drawing room I guess.

I would post another ISO after Xmas, it looks like several of us got this exact trade done. I had four out-of-the-blue offers for CD5 combo with other HF stuff as well.

    Appreciate the insight

I think the main problem with getting a RARE is most people only have one and parting with it is an awfully tough decision even for Rare R DOS.

The ratings on BA are a slippery slope. Whether it be homerism, anti-homerism, or just reflective of people wanting what they jut traded for to be great, a lot goes into it. There is also the possibility that it is great after sitting in a bottle for 9 months. Who knows. I will take under consideration though what a LOT of people say with tube filled growlers, that they are limited in time. Not just people, but brewers.

I've got no dog in this hunt. Pegs has GREAT beers but this looks like another instance where they fill 500 growlers or whatever and most of them IMMEDIATELY come up for trade. I hope everyone is happy whether they traded it or traded for it. I know the people who traded it will be happy.

Six months huh? You don't have the perspective of history here. Ask people who have spent time on here and ask them what the trading forums are like now versus before. There are still a lot of great traders here no doubt, but the limited runs are more apt to produce some ridiculous requests. Two growlers of Rarer for Loerick is ridiculous and not representative but still. Go to any limited run and watch the trade requests immediately after and get back to me.

Please don't start this whole time on BA thing... I'm well aware of what it was like in the past from talking with old school BAs that I've had the pleasure of sharing bottles with. Yes, of course that Loerik trade is ridiculous, do you honestly think I condone that? 90% of the trades with respect to "the new release" are ridiculous, I agree with you. I'm just saying that some of these releases completely warrant ISOs for rarities.

Maybe I've just gained perspective in my short amount of time here. And maybe old school BAs like yourself need to not immediately judge the BAs that have joined this year.

Back in my day BA was all orange groves, as far as the eye could see. Limited releases were attended by 13 bearded men and Blaeber traded 1:1 for Darklord and a firm hand shake. These damn yoots and their wales. They don't know!

There's nothing at all wrong with the request per se. The problem people have is more of what it exemplifies.

If somebody really wants to try to trade their growler for Blabaer, and plans on holding out and drinking it themselves unless they find a Blabaer, then go nuts IMO. The problem is when people try for Blabaer, then Rare, then Fou Foune, then 5 other beers as they walk down the rarity ladder and ultimately settle for a King Henry because that is the rarest beer they could get. It's effectively the same thing as auctioning the beer off to the highest bidder, only the trader is doing it in reverse. It's everything that is wrong about the trading scene today - stripping the community of its spirit of sharing beer, not acquiring beer.

Ahh... This I agree with. Yes, the frustration caused by trading like that you stated is evident and rampant.

I agree with the ultimate conclusion here. However, we often rip people who start "value" threads, telling them to instead just post an ISO and adjust downward if they have no luck. At that point, it becomes hard to draw lines between a legitimate "Post and if no Hits Adjust Downward" versus an inverted auction.

I'd say RareR DOS is worth at least 2 hours of my time to really savor an enjoy

Good calls here. This is by no means a monster whale, but I really want to try it as it got amazing feedback from the people I know to have tried it. Willing to make it worth anyone's while, but I'm not up for buying silly expensive bottles like a Crianza just for a 50 cl growler of this stuff that's now everywhere on the forums and will be again next year. One-offs vs. yearly releases, rare as they may be, are a BIG no-no for me. It goes against every single one of my principles to go round buying beautiful bottles that will never see the light of day again.

That's my philosophy, and that's why I will most likely never try this beer. Ah, the perversities of beer trading aye

Geez, I'm so sorry. Maybe I'm a dinosaur or a really slow learner. I'll step aside, you can take it from here.

    *sigh*

Clearly you have taken my points, made respectfully, in a negative fashion. This was not my intent. It's a shame such consideration could not have been reciprocated.
