the aforementioned orval and boulevards saison-brett are about as good as it gets, personally. (if you have not already had those)

Jolly Pumpkin's lineup, I'd say. Other than that, there are some great examples of just-brett (i.e., not brett w/ bacteria cultures) beers, but are a bit harder to find. But go pick up Bam Biere or La Roja.

For me, Rayon Vert is just alright. I don't care that it's $10 a 4 pack. My poor ass will be buying the real Belgian stuff 9 outta 10 times. I thought it was pretty bland. Just a decent funk with a fairly dominant hop profile (for the style) and SHIT TONS OF CARBONATION. The heartburn was killer after Rayon Vert, and most sours don't aggravate my acid reflux that badly. That's my rant.. Didn't care for it so much, but I can appreciate their effort.

I've passed by this so many times it's not even funny. I need to buck up and buy some.

Amen to this thread. RV has quietly (until now, I guess) been one of my favorite beers of the year. I wasn't expecting a ton from it, but it has a lot going on. With all the great options here in San Diego, it's really rare that I go for a Green Flash offering, but this beer may just have me rethinking that.

This beer is good, but it doesn't need a thread dedicated to it.

I bought 2 4 packs due to the raves here. I was expecting more of a 668 type of Belgian experience and got totally backhanded by the Brett. Wasnt expecting that. I enjoyed the Saison Diego and love all the other Hoppy offerings from Green Flash. Anyway, long story short, once these are gone, I dont think I'll be buying it again

this thread inspired me to try them side by side this weekend...and i'm with you, i think. i had a 9 mo. old orval next to a rayon vert (not sure how old) and while the orval was amazing and undoubtedly the more complex beer, and maybe it has to do with the ridiculous heat here, but i also slightly preferred rv. it was slightly less sweet and had a brighter, crisper edge that is just perfect to me right now.

i really should just buy a 4pk of RV and let it sit for a year and see what happens, but i always tend to drink it so fast whenever i get it.

Orval is one of my top 5 beers in the world. Just passed up some Rayon Vert yesterday, as I wasn't overly impressed by Greenflash's Palate Wrecker. Hope I'm not disappointed.

...OK. This is good stuff. A bit less refined than Orval, but all-in-all an extremely well-crafted U.S. craft version of that beer.

I absolutely hated it. I know it's not a style i like, so it may not be fair, but the head never settled and the funk was just too overpowering.

Absolutely love this beer, one of my favorites right now. It's just been tough to find in my area lately though, so anytime I see it on the shelf, I always grab it.

Definitely not your style, I consider both those things as huge positives in a beer.

Just picked up another 4 pk last night and I had to force myself to save at least one for aging, they go down so easily and the flavor seems so much brighter than most other Belgian-style pale ales. And at $10 I still feel like it's a great deal.

Was this batch bottle-dated? I've been looking for a new release and haven't come across it. Would love to know the date.

Date stamped bottles should be coming out in the next few months, they are going through conditioning.

Didn't catch the date but I don't think it's a new batch, it has a little more funk than I remember from the first batch when fresh.
