Re-enabling Profile Posts

Today I'm beginning the process of re-enabling the ability to post on profile pages. This Facebook Wall-like feature was disabled a while back, but after more consideration we believe that enabling it will greatly enhance the overall member and community experience.

Once enabled, members will have 3 profile page posting options based on the level of privacy they wish to keep.

• Allow others to post on their profile page: everyone, only members you follow, or nobody.
• The default will be: only members you follow, which can be adjusted under "Privacy" in your settings.

"Profile Posts" will be become the default tab when viewing a member's profile. Members will have full control over their profile posts, as well as the existing ability adjust who can view their profile page too.

We'll also be adjusting our posting rules for these pages to allow members to post a bit more freely on their own pages, and eventually extending this feature to the BeerAdvocate app.

I hope to have this enabled sometime today. I'll drop an update in this thread once the process is complete.

Just need to edit a few more templates and set some permissions.

Also, profile posts...

• Are limited to 140 characters.
• Become your current status at the top of you profile page and within the pop-up member card (click my username to the left to see this).
• Appear in "Your News Feed" (people you follow) and "Recent Activity" (when launched).
• Can be "Liked."
• Are searchable.

 

Decided to enable the new Beer Karma system first.

I've got a few more tweaks to make before Profile Posts go live, so we're looking at tomorrow or Monday now.
