I re-score beers when I have a significantly better experience than my previous score would suggest. This allows for the evolution of my palate, which facilitates greater enjoyment of some styles over time. I do not reduce scores for beers in styles I enjoy less than previously, but would reduce the score for a beer in a style I enjoy that is released intermittently if I enjoy it less than on previous occasions. Would be happy to be able to keep previous scores, as suggested, but it is not essential for me.

Interesting. I did not realize that such was the impetus for the removal of Serving Style. It really HURT me since I lost a LOT of CANQuest (tm) reviews when the merge took place. I was NOT one of the ones gaming the system, nor was I aware that such a correction was to occur. It still pains me that beers that I know that I reviewed in both bottle & CAN now only have a Bottle review.

As to the OP's Q: I dunno for sure, but I would think that your proposition of allowing for re-reviews every 5 years might really put a burden on the data base.

    Here is my work-around, FWIW:
    1) My numerical rating stands. A) It is a historical entry, thus not something that I want to change & B) I am more interested in Reviews anyway. I am a wordsmith, not a numbers guy, so the Rating is far less important than the verbiage.

    2) My verbiage now includes the Serving Style, i.e. "From the Bottle", "From the CAN", et al.

    3) If it is a re-review (same Serving Style, new eyes after a long absence) or a revisitation (Bottle review where a CAN review already exists, or vice versa), then I note the current day & date in the verbiage & Review on, Garth! If I was so inclined, I could also include new numbers with the review.

    4) Take pride in your historical standing! Resetting your Review/Rating date to the modern era is akin to Stalin-era Photoshopping. Hey, if I was an early explorer, ala Lewis & Clark, I'd be MUCH prouder of that than somebody who drove I-70/I-80 in a couple/few days. Yeah, your review might be buried under an avalanche, but there is a measure of satisfaction to be taken in having been an initial planter of the flag.

I do this regularly and write a second new review under my initial. I also update the rating as I currently view it but make sure to note in the review my previous rating. I'd be all for an easier way but I'm not sure there is one.
